Antigua and Barbuda strengthens its position as a leading Caribbean cruise destination following successful engagements at Seatrade Cruise Global 2026. With increased ship calls, luxury expansion, and strong industry confidence, the destination is on track for record passenger arrivals and enhanced homeporting opportunities.

Antigua and Barbuda is charting an ambitious course for cruise tourism growth following a highly productive showing at Seatrade Cruise Global 2026, held April 13–16 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

A delegation from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), led by CEO Colin C. James, conducted an intensive schedule of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening partnerships and expanding the destination’s footprint in the global cruise sector. The delegation also included senior tourism and port representatives, underscoring a unified national approach to cruise development.

High-level engagements drive momentum

Over three days, Antigua and Barbuda held 16 strategic meetings with major cruise operators, including Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Group, MSC Group, Disney Cruise Line, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, AIDA Cruises, Emerald Cruises, Sea Cloud Cruises, Star Clippers, Marella Cruises, and Oceanus.

CEO Colin C. James noted that the response from industry partners was overwhelmingly positive, citing recent port upgrades and expanded opportunities for homeporting, LNG fueling, and new tour development as key drivers of interest.

Major Cruise Commitments and Milestones

The meetings delivered tangible results, with several cruise lines confirming increased calls to Antigua and Barbuda:

  • MSC Group will expand from 12 calls in 2026 to 41 in 2027, including 13 calls from its luxury brand Explora Journeys.
  • A landmark moment is set for December 7, 2026, when MSC World Europa makes its maiden Caribbean call, bringing approximately 5,250 passengers.
  • Royal Caribbean Group is projected to deliver 112 calls in the upcoming season.
  • Oceanus will maintain a consistent weekly presence with 52 annual calls.

Further collaboration with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is reinforcing Antigua and Barbuda’s growing profile in the luxury cruise segment.

Rising Demand and Strategic Opportunities

Cruise partners are actively exploring homeporting in Antigua and Barbuda, citing strong airlift connectivity, efficient port operations, and the destination’s strategic location in the Eastern Caribbean. Industry leaders also indicated planned ship redeployments toward longer Southern Caribbean itineraries that include Antigua, reflecting increased demand.

Visitor satisfaction remains a critical strength, with average scores of 88/100. Friendliness and safety continue to be leading factors influencing both cruise line deployment and repeat visitation.

A Million Passenger Season Ahead

Antigua and Barbuda is preparing for a record-breaking cruise season, with projections exceeding one million passengers and more than 400 annual calls. The destination continues to focus on value-driven growth, leveraging its renowned “365 beaches,” rich heritage, and expanded cultural experiences, while prioritizing sustainability and immersive tourism.

Strategic Industry Platform

With more than 11,500 attendees and 650 exhibitors, Seatrade Cruise Global 2026 once again proved to be the premier global gathering for cruise stakeholders. Antigua and Barbuda uses the platform to align with key industry trends, including AI integration, sustainability, and experiential travel.

The ABTA delegation was joined by local partners such as Rendezvous Antigua Tour Company, Bryson’s Shipping and Insurance, Tropical Adventures Antigua, PIR8 Beach Antigua, and Francis Trading Agency Ltd., highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration.

Regional Cooperation Strengthens Caribbean Appeal

Regional collaboration was another highlight, with Antigua and Barbuda working alongside Montserrat and other partners to promote the Eastern Caribbean as a unified, multi-destination experience catering to both mass-market and luxury cruise segments.
