oneworld Adds Hawaiian Airlines, Becoming Top Alliance for Hawai’i Travel

oneworld welcomes Hawaiian Airlines, joining American and Alaska Airlines to create the largest airline alliance serving Hawai’i. The move strengthens Pacific connectivity, adds Honolulu as a global hub, and expands access to destinations across the islands and South Pacific, enhancing benefits and seamless travel for global passengers.

The global airline alliance oneworld has officially welcomed Hawaiian Airlines as its newest member, strengthening its footprint across the Pacific and solidifying its position as the leading airline alliance serving Hawai’i, the 50th US state.

With the addition of Hawaiian Airlines, oneworld now counts three US-based carriers among its members—joining American Airlines and Alaska Airlines. This milestone enhances connectivity to and within the Hawaiian Islands, positioning oneworld as the most comprehensive alliance for travel to Hawai’i.

Hawaiian Airlines’ integration introduces Honolulu as a key global hub within the alliance, opening new travel opportunities across the Pacific. Destinations newly accessible through the expanded network include Hilo on Hawai’i Island, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, Pago Pago in American Samoa, and Papeete in Tahiti—further strengthening links between North America and the South Pacific.

“We are delighted to officially welcome Hawaiian Airlines into the oneworld family, further strengthening our alliance’s footprint in the Pacific region and the United States,” said Ole Orvér, CEO of oneworld. “Renowned for its award-winning service for almost 100 years, Hawaiian Airlines will make travel to the beautiful islands of Hawai’i more connected and rewarding for oneworld customers, delivering an elevated journey that brings the spirit of aloha to our alliance.”

Hawaiian Airlines CEO Diana Birkett Rakow highlighted the cultural and customer benefits of joining the alliance. “We are thrilled to join this extended ‘ohana, or family of the world’s best airlines,” she said. “oneworld brings significant global travel benefits to our guests, including Atmos Rewards loyalty members and Hawai’i residents. Our Hawaiian Airlines team members look forward to welcoming oneworld guests onboard from around the world, sharing their aloha and warm Hawaiian hospitality, and inspiring visitors to appreciate Hawai’i’s culture, environment and people.”

The move also sharpens competitive positioning among the three major global airline alliances. While Star Alliance—anchored in the US by United Airlines—and SkyTeam—with Delta Air Lines as a key member—continue to offer extensive global networks, oneworld now stands out as the most robust alliance specifically for travel to Hawai’i. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines continues to operate independently outside the alliance system.

For travelers, the inclusion of Hawaiian Airlines means enhanced benefits such as seamless connections, reciprocal frequent flyer rewards, and expanded premium travel options—all while preserving Hawaiian’s signature onboard experience rooted in the spirit of aloha.

As global travel demand to island destinations continues to rise, oneworld’s latest expansion underscores the strategic importance of Hawai’i as both a tourism powerhouse and a critical gateway between continents.
