In the past, the last two system updates at the end of the annual cycle were rarely accompanied by major, visible innovations. iOS 26.6 and macOS 26.6 will most likely be no exception, as only small changes could be found when searching through Beta 1. This is unlikely to change with the second beta. This is now available via Apple’s developer portal, which Apple allowed three weeks to pass. The general release should take place in July or August at the latest. Only two adjustments have been known so far. There is a warning if users have blocked more than 20,000 contacts. If that sounds like an astronomically high number that can never be reached, if you rely on third-party providers with blocking lists for known spam numbers, this often includes far more than 10,000 entries – so you could definitely reach the previous limit. Apparently the only thing that has changed is that in this case you can see an error message, not the limit itself.
Apple also implemented a new security process for Apple Maps that screens incoming requests before they go through. It is believed that this is related to the integration of advertising in the map app – theoretically it would be possible to inject character strings via the description that would cause the app or even the system to crash.
The current betas
Finally, as always, the well-known list of currently available beta versions. As is usual with an earlier beta, the letter at the end is still a long way from “a”, which Apple always uses to indicate that you are pretty much at the beginning. The new round began with “e” or “f” on macOS. This is what it currently looks like in the developer area – a second public beta is not yet available, but it should appear with a maximum delay of one day.
