Apple TV: Tony nominations for ‘Schmigadoon’, trailer for ‘Cape Fear’ and John Travolta film | News

The Tony Awards, full name “Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theater,” are presented annually in New York. The focus is on stage performances. At first glance, a streaming series seems out of place here. However, anyone who has already tuned in to the American comedy production will understand the reason: the twelve half-hour episodes are all designed as a musical.

Strictly speaking, it is not the series itself that is on the shortlist for the theater award, but rather its Broadway adaptation. But Apple also worked as a co-producer on this one. With a dozen nominations, “Schmigadoon!” one of the two favorites at the gala on June 7th. The musical “The Lost Boys”, which is based on a spectacular teen vampire drama of the same name from the 1980s, can also hope for a prize in twelve categories. The nominations for Schmigadoon! in detail:

Trailer for “Cape Fear”
A new star-studded thriller series starts on Apple TV on June 5th: Javier Bardem and Amy Adams are the main characters in Cape Fear. A family living in suburban luxury is confronted with their own past when Max Cady is released from prison. In 1991 a film of the same name was released. The then director, Martin Scorsese, and the producer (Steven Spielberg) work as co-producers in the new edition.

From May 29th: Night flight to LA
Later this month, Apple TV will release a film online that is largely the work of actor John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction). For “Propeller One-Way Night Coach,” Travolta wrote the screenplay, directed and took on the role of narrator. This film marks his debut as a director. In the German directory the film is apparently called “Night Flight to LA”. No preview page has yet been created in the Apple TV app.
