More than 100,000 people want this job: The AI startup Joi AI pays 1,760 euros to test a new erotic audio function. The startup is a provider of “AI relationships that are emotionally, intellectually and intimately fulfilling.”
AI companies need testers and trainers to further develop their products. At the startup Joi AI from Cyprus, however, this work is not suitable for young people: Joi AI is currently looking for ten “masturbation consultants” to test a new audio function for adults. The only requirement: a minimum age of 18 years. The company pays $2,000 (around 1,760 euros) to participate.
Task: Write a diary about the experience
The company emphasizes that the job is actually real. The study will be carried out together with the human resources department. We are looking for participants of different ages, genders and sexual orientations. Selected applicants will complete four weeks of daily guided audio sessions and write short reports on their experiences each week.

Already over 100,000 applications
According to Julie Levin, director at Joi AI, the interest is huge. She told us that the company had already received more than 100,000 applications. When the company published the job advertisement on social networks, she expected a reaction, but not this kind of response.
“What are we going to do with 100,000 applications?” said Levin. “I should actually call them winners because it’s become such a competition.”
This startup is behind it
Joi AI, which renamed itself from Eva AI to Joi AI in 2025, describes itself as a provider of “AI relationships that are emotionally, intellectually and intimately fulfilling.”
The startup’s offering is available as a web application and uses a coin-based payment model. For $13.99 per month (around €12.30), users initially receive 1,000 coins. According to PitchBook, Eva AI has raised an estimated $4 million (around €3.5 million) since its founding in 2023.
Levin didn’t want to tell us investors, sales or specific user numbers. However, she explained that around 70 employees work on the product and the platform has several million users per month.

Erotic AI is booming
The market for erotic AI offers is currently changing. Elon Musk’s xAI company is so far the only large AI laboratory that actively serves this market. It released AI companions in lingerie as well as a “Spicy Mode” that allows adult users to interact more freely.
OpenAI also announced at times that it would expand the capabilities of its systems to include erotic content. However, according to media reports, the company later backed away from these plans.
AI startup hits a nerve
Anyone who would like to apply for the job at Joi AI must first fill out a short questionnaire. One of the questions is, “What do you hope to learn about yourself?”
“We expect people to learn about how masturbation affects their lives – in a positive or negative sense,” Levin said. “We wanted them to think about it.”
In addition, Joi AI published a call online to share application screenshots. Several users then published their answers to this very question. “I want to be part of history,” one commenter wrote. Another explained that he hoped to make money from a “hidden habit.”

The majority of applicants are men
After Levin’s email address was shared publicly, numerous interested parties sent their resumes directly to her. Most applicants are men in their 20s and 30s, Levin said.
“I think this is the most sought-after job opening there is right now,” Levin said. “You would expect something like this to happen at OpenAI or Google. But it doesn’t.”
