Jujutsu Kaisen

10 Most Overpowered Cursed Techniques in JJK

Jujutsu Kaisen has several strengths, but few are as impressive as the anime’s power system. Instead of relying on occasional power-ups, battles are often defined by individual intellect, joint compatibility and creative applications of various Cursed Techniques. Even seemingly modest abilities can become unstoppable in the hands of an exceptional sorcerer, while the strongest can reshape the battlefield.

Most importantly, however, Cursed Techniques force opponents to play by entirely different rulesets, turning advantages into disadvantages and vice-versa. This works both ways, as proven by several JJK fights, where versatility, scalability, consistency, and comfort matter so much more than brute force. Whether legendary inheritances or intrinsic awakenings, the most overpowered Cursed Techniques can seize victory from the jaws of defeat. And sometimes it doesn’t matter how strong or weak their users are.

Technique Extinguishment Neutralizes the Strongest Jujutsu

Two of the most prized Cursed Tools in Jujutsu Kaisen — the Black Rope and the Inverted Spear of Heaven — are renowned for their ability to nullify Cursed Techniques. When a character appeared with that specific power, they immediately became relevant to the Culling Game. The resurrected sorcerer Angel wielded Technique Extinguishment through Hana Kurusu’s body, offering multiple solutions for the heroes.

This Cursed Technique generates a construct called Jacob’s Ladder, a towering pillar of light that neutralizes pretty much anything built with cursed energy. Angel dissolved barriers, freed Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm, and tried to exorcise Sukuna from Megumi’s body. If the final villain had been anyone other than the King of Curses, and if Hana Kurusu hadn’t been weakened due to a lost arm, Jujutsu Kaisen might have ended right there.

Boogie Woogie Dominates the Battlefield with Perfect Control

Boogie Woogie feels deceptively simple on the surface, with Aoi Todo merely clapping his hands to swap the positions of any two targets possessing cursed energy. And yet, this straightforward premise blossomed into surprisingly inventive fights, proving that a Cursed Technique’s effectiveness depends as much on its user. Through flawless timing and exceptional combat IQ, Todo turned Boogie Woogie into a capriciously overpowered support ability.

The technique forces opponents to question every movement, as each clap can reposition multiple things on the battlefield, including Todo, his allies, his enemies, and random objects. Even after losing his left hand in Shibuya, Todo modified Boogie Woogie with a prosthetic drum that made his timing somehow more unpredictable. He performs feints that distract Sukuna, allowing Yuji to land otherwise impossible attacks, and later earns the King of Curses’ acknowledgment by tanking one of his Black Flashes with Boogie Woogie.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation Has Unlimited Growth Potential

Cursed Spirit Manipulation is so powerful that Suguro Geto was immediately considered a Special Grade sorcerer. Users can absorb, command, and deploy a wide range of cursed spirits as an ever-expanding personal army. This technique grows stronger with every defeated spirit, providing limitless long-term potential by making each victory fuel the next. And then there’s Maximum: Uzumaki, which fuses countless cursed spirits into a single devastating attack, repeatedly employed by Kenjaku.

In fact, Geto’s performance with Cursed Spirit Manipulation pales before Kenjaku, who combined it with centuries of accumulated knowledge, barrier expertise and additional techniques. That said, even Gojo would have found it difficult to defeat Geto if the latter had actually managed to acquire Rika from Yuta Okkotsu.

Shrine Turned Sukuna Into the Ultimate Killing Machine

Ryomen Sukuna was blessed with the greatest cursed energy in jujutsu history, with Yuta Okkotsu claiming that the villain had more than twice his own reserves. This certainly helped elevate Shrine into a catastrophic Cursed Technique that preferred offensive efficiency over complicated conditions or elaborate mechanics. Sukuna continues to expand its applications through the Culling Game, highlighting his unrivaled understanding of sorcery.

The technique consists of two abilities, with Dismantle delivering slashing attacks at inanimate objects and ordinary opponents, and Cleave adjusting its output based on the target’s durability and cursed energy. Sukuna later developed the World-Cutting Slash with Mahoraga’s help, an offshoot of Shrine that effortlessly killed Satoru Gojo. Unfortunately for Sukuna, Yuji obtained the ability to use Shrine before the villain jumped to Megumi.

Idle Transfiguration Makes Every Touch Potentially Fatal

Arguably the most ominous Cursed Technique in JJK, Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration directly manipulates the shape of souls via physical contact, instantly altering the bodies connected to them. Since the body follows the soul, Mahito can disfigure, mutilate, and outright murder opponents with a single touch. Although Kokichi Muta’s Binding Vow proved that Idle Transfiguration is also capable of miraculous restoration, it was almost exclusively used for evil.

Mahito can easily reshape his own soul to regenerate from injuries, enhance his physical attributes, forge his limbs into weapons, and create an army of disposable soldiers by transforming people into grotesque Transfigured Humans. Mahito nearly defeated Yuji and Todo with Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing, but was eventually rendered helpless. When he asked for help, Kenjaku absorbed Mahito with Cursed Spirit Manipulation and used Idle Transfiguration to kickstart the Culling Game.

Construction Nearly Gave Yorozu Victory Over Sukuna

Theoretically speaking, Construction can generate a variety of physical matter from cursed energy, including the cursed tool that Mai Zenin sacrificed her life to create for her sister. The resulting Split-Soul Katana allowed Maki to reach even greater heights, including an attack that left Sukuna’s heart severely wounded. That being said, the most impressive application of this Cursed Technique came from Yorozu.

Already one of the most terrifying characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, Yorozu spawned a so-called Perfect Sphere that generated infinite pressure across its surface. Her construct would have unquestionably erased Sukuna from existence, especially with the Domain Expansion’s guaranteed hit, but this wasn’t the same King of Curses that Yorozu fell in love with centuries ago. Sukuna had access to Mahoraga, whose adaptations to Perfect Sphere’s metallic ingredient ensured Yorozu’s defeat.

Ten Shadows Technique Directly Led to Gojo’s Death

The Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is not just the apex shikigami of JJK; it’s also one of the top five strongest beings in the world. Emerging from the Ten Shadows Technique, Mahoraga’s presence is one of many reasons why this ability was regarded as the Zenin Clan’s ultimate treasure. The other shikigami, from Round Deer and Max Elephant to Great Serpent and Divine Dogs, are uniquely empowered and can be combined to form dangerously formidable hybrids.

Megumi exploited the synergy between various shikigami to great effect, though it ultimately fell to Sukuna to showcase why Fushiguro was even in the running to become the Zenin’s next clan head. While Satoru Gojo’s destruction of Mahoraga partially led to Sukuna losing this Cursed Technique, the Strongest Sorcerer in the World may have potentially surpassed the Strongest Sorcerer in History if not for the Ten Shadows.

Limitless Forced Sukuna to Redraft His Combat Strategy

Even at its most fundamental level, Limitless is stupendously overpowered. Infinity alone protects Satoru Gojo from physical damage. He can’t even be touched without a specific counter designed to negate Cursed Techniques. Only when paired with the hereditary Six Eyes and massive quantities of cursed energy can Limitless be exploited to its fullest extent, resulting in Blue, Red and the Hollow Technique: Purple that destroyed both Toji Fushiguro and Mahoraga.

Despite never showing it, Sukuna was so worried about Limitless that he secured Megumi as a host body and centered his entire battle plan on Mahoraga. And yet, Gojo’s mastery over his Cursed Technique didn’t make it very easy for Sukuna, who was forced to wait until the World-Cutting Slash was formulated.

There is no JJK Cursed Technique more versatile than Yuta Okkotsu’s Copy. Instead of specializing in a single supernatural ability, it reproduces the techniques of other sorcerers, dramatically expanding his arsenal. Supported by Rika, Copy is the reason why Gojo once declared that his protege would surpass him. Over the course of the series, Yuta demonstrated his control over Sky Manipulation, Jacob’s Ladder, Cursed Speech, and several others.

Copy forced Sukuna himself on the back foot when used via Authentic Mutual Love, a Domain Expansion that magnifies the Cursed Technique’s advantages. If that’s not impressive enough, Yuta copied Limitless by transplanting his brain into Gojo’s corpse, further weakening the King of Curses. All things considered, Copy is significantly more than a collection of borrowed powers.

Satoru Gojo can bend space, whereas Fumihiko Takaba rewrites reality itself. Easily the most broken Cursed Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami stated that Comedian could rival the likes of Limitless. In reality, however, Takaba is only held back by his own lack of understanding and disinterest in battle. As long as he goes through the necessary training and establishes the required mindset, Comedian can potentially eviscerate Sukuna.

Although Takaba was least interested in refining his powers — imagine a Domain Expansion erupting from comedian — the fact that he outmaneuvered Kenjaku is a testament to his Cursed Technique. There’s just one drawback: the user must find something amusing before it can become reality. Takaba cannot directly imagine Sukuna dying, not unless he also laughs at the idea. Comedian is a strange ability wielded by an even stranger man, whose vast and complex imagination may be the only real limit on his power.
