The Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 starts on Monday, June 8th. Originally it was purely a developer event, but for two decades now the opening event in the form of the keynote has been aimed primarily at end customers. This takes place at 7 p.m. German time. Three hours later, at 10 p.m. German time, the “Platforms State of the Union” event begins and here Apple goes into the details of the new ideas for developers. Group labs with live presentations and question-and-answer sessions for developers will also take place during the WWDC week – and the group will publish a whole series of videos in which individual innovations will be discussed. WWDC is the most important software event in the Apple world, as the company will show the next operating system generations to the public for the first time. macOS 27, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 – safe
It is almost certain that Apple will show the 27 generation of operating systems to the world public for the first time at the keynote. There were various reports in advance that Apple was increasingly focusing on bug fixes and fine-tuning with these updates – topics that were neglected in the current operating system generation. It is also rumored that Apple is also adapting the Liquid Glass user interface that was introduced last year. However, there is no major renovation planned here, but rather the group wants to address various detailed problems. The company is only planning more adjustments for macOS, where the Liquid Glass interface suffered the most.
Immediately after the keynote, Apple will release the first preliminary versions of the 27 operating system generations for developers. A public beta will likely follow in July 2026 – and the final versions will finally appear for all users in the fall.
Siri 2.0 – almost certain
Apple announced a new generation of Siri at WWDC 2024 – but apparently development had not progressed very far at the time of the announcement and Apple finally had to admit at the beginning of 2025 that “Siri 2.0” would not appear until 2026. But here too, everything didn’t go as planned because the internal development failed again – and Apple was forced to use Google’s Gemini AI instead of its own models. It will certainly be interesting to see how Apple discusses its collaboration with Google at the keynote.
Most likely, Apple will devote a large part of the keynote to the new generation of Siri. Siri 2.0 will most likely be released to all users in the fall along with macOS 27 and iOS 27.
New features for Apple Intelligence – almost certain
In addition to the new Siri generation, Apple will most likely also expand the other AI features of the operating systems, which the group summarizes under “Apple Intelligence”. There is talk of better image creation and editing functions and text and grammar correction. It is also conceivable that Apple will further open up its own AI platform for developers and make it more accessible.
HomePod & Apple TV – very unsafe
Back in March, reports emerged that stocks of the HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV were very low – usually a sure sign that new devices are coming soon. But so far there has been no announcement. In the past, Apple has occasionally used WWDC to present new hardware – but home accessories are usually not part of the range of topics. An announcement in the fall is much more likely here.
Macs & iPads – almost impossible
The Mac mini and the Mac Studio are currently very limited in availability. The reason here is not an upcoming update, but rather due to general delivery problems regarding processors and memory. Already at the last quarterly conference, CEO Tim Cook and CFO Kevan Parekh noted several times that they were struggling with serious supply chain problems – and therefore the presentation of new Macs, such as the Mac mini M5 or Mac Studio M5, is almost impossible. Things are similar with the iPad – and here too, CFO Parekh indirectly noted that no updates are planned in the near future.
Ternus as moderator?
On April 20, 2026, Apple announced a big change: John Ternus will be the new CEO of Apple, replacing Tim Cook in September 2026. Cook has been leading all major events since 2012 – and it is uncertain how Apple will organize the presentation this year. It is conceivable that Cook will moderate the keynote alone one last time. It is also conceivable that Ternus and Cook will lead the keynote together – also to suggest a seamless transition. It is almost certain that Ternus, as the new CEO, will take over the presentation of the upcoming iPhone models in the fall.
