WWDC 2026: Apple invites you to “The Mandalorian and Grogu” +++ further preparations underway | News
Anyone who visits WWDC 2026 on site can find out about operating systems, developer tools and new interfaces, and can also watch the broadcast of the pre-produced keynote on the big screen. However, Apple announced an additional cinematic experience. If you have received an invitation to the in-person program in Apple Park, another highlight is a special screening of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in the Steve Jobs Theater (June 9, 8 p.m. local time). The film has been in cinemas since May and brings the two main characters back to the screen. The choice of film from the world of Star Wars was probably not a coincidence. Director Jon Favreau spoke in the spring about how the Apple Vision Pro was used during production to better assess IMAX image sections. The demonstration fits well with Apple’s efforts to position Vision Pro not only as an entertainment device, but also as a tool for professional media production.
WWDC Preparations: The Hashmoji
While the joint film evening is considered an innovation at a World Wide Developers Conference, Apple otherwise follows the usual procedures. This also includes how the marketing machine is getting more and more rolling. Anyone who uses the hashtag #WWDC26 on X will now automatically see a small symbol next to the keyword – a so-called Hashmoji. Apple has been using this form of event advertising for several years for larger presentations, including iPhone keynotes and developer conferences.
You can see an Apple logo with a metallic, reflective appearance with colored light refractions. The Hashmoji was activated only a short time after Apple’s marketing director Greg Joswiak published another short WWDC teaser on X (see Report). Many assume that the graphical effects reflect what the new generation of Siri will look like in iOS 27.
