La Dolce Vita on the Amalfi Coast – Why you have to experience this dream place!

Imagine: turquoise water meets dramatic cliffs, colorful houses nestle like candy on the mountain slopes and the scent of lemons fills the air. Welcome to the Amalfi Coast – a place that looks like someone drew paradise on the map.

Where is the Amalfi Coast (Italian: Costiera Amalfitana)?
The Amalfi Coast stretches for about 50 kilometers along the southern part of Italy’s Sorrento Peninsula – in the Campania region, between the towns of Vietri sul Mare and Positano. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 – and for good reason.

Why is she so famous?

• Film stars like Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, now Beyonce, J. Lo and Co. have already been here.
• Instagrammable backdrops that look like something out of a painting.

How do you get to the Amalfi Coast?
We flew from Munich to Naples and took a small rental car, a Fiat 600. Your rental car shouldn’t be any bigger, the roads on the coast are very winding and narrow. From Naples it is about 50 km to the most beautiful place on the Amalfi Coast – Positano.

Sorrento

Before we drove to Positano, where our hotel was, we visited Sorrento, which is on the route and is well worth seeing. Sorrento was quickly seen. It is a seaside village, with a tiny harbor and lovely shopping streets. The fish restaurant Delfino, which is located on a jetty at the Marina Grande, is highly recommended.

Sorrento is a charming coastal town, on the Sorrento Peninsula, with stunning views of the Gulf of Naples. It is practically opposite Naples and is a popular starting point for trips to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii or Naples itself.

Positano

The flagship of the coast. Postcard motif, shopping paradise, sunset magic. Definitely the most beautiful place on the Amalfi Coast.

We stayed at the Hotel Eden Roc. The fantastic location, with a view of the famous pastel-colored houses, made the high price for the overnight stay worth it! A double room is available in the early season (until the end of May) from 800 euros. Web: www.edenroc.it

Is that justified? Certainly not according to German standards. The four star hotel is one of the best on site, it is not stylish or particularly beautiful. You have a direct sea view from every room, and the breakfast terrace and restaurant are great. In summer the rooms cost twice as much. There are also luxury hotels that make you dizzy when you see the prices listed. Compared to the other hotels in the same category and location, it was just right for us. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired, and dinner on the rooftop terrace is also highly recommended.

RADA Rooftop Ristorante

The most beautiful location in Positano. It is a beach bar, beach restaurant, rooftop restaurant and club in one. The RADA is located on several floors directly on Positano beach. www.radapositano.it
There is fantastic fish, oysters and seafood here. The wine and champagne list is huge. The view of the sea and the coast from here is magically beautiful! Be sure to reserve in advance.

Il Ritrovo Positano Ristorante

A free shuttle takes you to this restaurant high above Positano. It’s down to earth and very good. Here you can comfortably dress and enjoy your pasta, meat or fish. We liked it very much.

They also have cooking classes and gluten free bread and pasta, which was great for me. That’s why I ate pasta here, with seafood, very tasty. Web: www.ilritrovo.com

Arienzo Beach Club Positano

Birthday vibes, but make it Positano-style. Picked up from the beach by boat, five minutes of pure magic: pastel-colored houses, the blue sea – and then he appears like something out of a movie. A beach club as if it were a deserted island – palm trees, orange interior and that touch of luxury á la GUESS.

Here my birthday became a little summer fairy tale. Sun, style, service directly at your lounger. Whether it’s lunch with DJ sound, a lounge or just celebrating life – this hotspot is a must-do in Positano. Web: booking.arienzobeachclub.com/

Amalfi

Amalfi – The namesake of the coast with a beautiful cathedral and medieval flair. Here you definitely have to try the famous Amalfi lemon sorbet. It costs 10 euros, which is very well spent. Ceramics are the souvenir from Amalfi. There’s so much kitsch, but this one store is different. We bought beautiful plates here. Unfortunately Amalfi is completely overcrowded, this is due to the cruise ships. Thousands of day tourists travel to this mini-town. We quickly fled.

Ravello

Attention music lovers: the Ravello Festival takes place here. The view from Villa Cimbrone (entrance costs 20 euros) is breathtaking.

In Ravello you can breathe a sigh of relief, much less tourists, as the romantic place is located high up in the hills above Amalfi. The journey is adventurous but doable if you have good nerves – this applies to the entire Amalfi Coast. Always stay calm and breathe deeply.

Ravello is very beautiful, almost fairytale-like. Many couples get married here or spend their honeymoon in the most beautiful hotel on the entire Amalfi Coast, the Palazzo Avino. Web: www.palazzoavino.com

Pompeii

On the way to the airport, we made a stop in Pompeii before our return journey. It was very worth it! We took a two-hour guided tour with a guide. I would highly recommend this to you! The tour cost us 25 euros per person. In small groups you look at the most important excavations together.

Pompeii was a thriving Roman city near Naples. In 79 AD, a massive eruption of the volcano Vesuvius completely buried it under ash, pumice and lava. The city was preserved in the process – and that’s what makes it so unique today.

Pompeii gives us an almost eerily detailed insight into Roman life:

• How they lived, what they ate, how they loved, celebrated and mourned.
• It is a mirror of the vanished world – and at the same time a reminder of how powerful nature is.

When you walk through the streets you don’t see rubble – you feel life. Loud market activity, the clinking of amphoras, laughter in the thermal baths. And that’s exactly why Pompeii is not just a place. It’s an experience.

When is the best time to travel to the Amalfi Coast?
The best time to visit is April to the end of May. From June to September everything is twice as crowded and twice as expensive. The weather in spring is pleasantly warm, nature is in all its glory and the crowds are limited.

Why you absolutely have to go to the Amalfi Coast?

• How life flows differently here – slower, more intense, more sensual.
• Because every meal is a poem – from fresh pasta to the world-famous limoncello.
• Because you get lost between art, culture and the coast – and that’s exactly the beauty of it.

We spent 3 nights and four days on the Amalfi Coast and experienced so much.
