iPhone Ultra: iOS 27 contains hints about the foldable iPhone | News

For several years now, many reliable sources have been reporting that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone – and this fall the time has come: Apple will show the “iPhone Ultra” to the public for the first time. Dummy models have already come to light and give a first impression of what the upcoming iPhone looks like.

Methods appeared in iOS 27
A few hours ago, Apple showed iOS 27 to the world for the first time – and the first developer preview version is now available for download. Sam Henri Gold has now published a screenshot of method names from the CoreMotion framework on

For example, we are talking about a “foldState”, which probably indicates whether the iPhone is closed or opened. The current folding angle can also be read out and the validity of the value can be checked. These interfaces will probably not be available directly to third-party manufacturers, but only to Apple itself. iOS will use these values, for example, to move the user interface from the outer screen to the large, inner screen – and then use other mechanisms to inform apps that the size and shape of the screen has changed.

Freely customizable simulator
Developers use the iOS and iPadOS simulator to be able to try out their own apps directly on the Mac without having to copy them to real hardware. The simulator currently allows you to specify which hardware the app should be tested on – and the simulator then provides a device with exactly this resolution. With Xcode 27, a new simulator is now available that can be freely enlarged and reduced – and Apple clearly states that apps should be designed so that they work with very different screen sizes and aspect ratios. This is another note, as the “iPhone Ultra” has a significantly different aspect ratio than current iPhone models.
