Last year, Apple delivered around 240 million iPhones to customers. Even though Apple neither gives exact figures nor breaks down the values of individual model series, there are countless market studies on this topic. In the three and a half months after the 17 generation was launched, around 20 million users reportedly picked up a Pro Max, 14 million picked up a Pro, 17 million picked up the base model – and only five to six million picked up an iPhone Air. These numbers are important to put in relation to the latest forecasts regarding the foldable iPhone Ultra, which is likely to become an important topic next September. Report: Apple increases orders
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple is now quite confident that the foldable iPhone will be well received. While they initially only wanted to sell seven to eight million devices by the end of the year, the company is now expecting up to ten million units – mind you, of an iPhone model that is unlikely to start at less than $2,000. According to the report, the stated value is the figure that Apple commissions from its manufacturing partner Foxconn. Compared to the most popular versions, these are of course significantly lower values, but not purely niche.
You would immediately be the largest foldable manufacturer
Another comparison is even more interesting because, according to TrendForce, all manufacturers together were only able to sell 19.8 million foldable smartphones last year. If Apple’s forecast comes true, it would suddenly become the largest provider in the product category in question – Samsung’s entire foldable family supposedly only had a maximum of six million units in 2025. Although the segment will probably continue to grow this year, Apple’s top position would still remain. In any case, it doesn’t seem to be a cautious attempt with a low production volume – it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to it.
