iOS 26.5: RCS encryption and provider support +++ macOS 26.5 brings easier Mac switching on | News

With iOS 26.5, Apple enabled, among other things, end-to-end encryption of RCS messages. However, the company is causing some confusion with the compatibility list because apparently no German mobile phone provider is included. The matter can be quickly clarified if you look at the older date (April 6th) of the German-language support article. In the English area (May 11th), however, there is more clarity. The key point “End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging (beta)” is carried by the following three providers:

  • 1&1 Germany
  • O2 Germany
  • Telekom Germany

Vodafone, however, is missing from the list because the provider is only listed as “RCS Messaging”. It is currently unknown whether Vodafone will need longer to integrate the new RCS function or whether it may just be a carrier update that has been delayed. However, encryption is not available in other countries where Vodafone is active. Apple currently names Magenta for Austria and no mobile phone provider for Switzerland.

macOS 26.5 makes turning on your Mac easier
Given the headline, some people might immediately ask themselves what was ever difficult about turning on a Mac. At least owners of a current Mac mini should know the answer: The power button is on the bottom, so you have to lift the device slightly to use it.

After the presentation of the Mac mini M4 by Joswiak and Ternus, it was said at the time that this switch would almost never be needed anyway – but Apple obviously saw some potential for improvements. Since May 26, the macOS energy settings have included a new option to automatically start the Mac when it is connected to power.

What’s striking is that only Mac mini M4, Mac Studio M3/M4 and iMac M4 are compatible – as Apple explains in the support document. The statement says the feature can be useful if you have difficulty reaching the power button.
