However, the statement is especially true if you are aware of how the systems work. An LLM has no understanding of what it is telling. However, if you take all the answers at face value, since the output is of course given with full conviction and the user should agree as much as possible, this can cause problems.
There has now been a lawsuit against OpenAI in the USA because ChatGPT advised a man not to see a doctor. “God didn’t design your body to constantly fail,” goes the reasoning. The appointed lawyer argued that ChatGPT’s “sycophantic nature” had created dangerous consequences. The fact that the user had trained his ChatGPT in exactly this direction and simply got the answers he wanted to hear (“I can handle anything with my faith”) is likely to be a key point in the dispute. However, medically clearly false statements were made that should never have been made – which is why the user went to a doctor far too late, who discovered several blocked arteries.
