After Christmas, my friends were amazed at what Santa Claus and his elves had prepared for our daughter. Nowadays I would rather use the wooden spoon in the children’s room myself, because Mini’s children’s kitchen is much nicer than our outdated old kitchen. In the past, I was never a big fan of the Swedish furniture store with the 4 letters, as the furniture quickly disappointed me with its often poor quality, mostly hanging cabinet doors and poorly functioning drawers. From this experience onwards, my motto was: small things, furniture never again! And yet I have made peace with the furniture store since I became a mother. This is probably because there is a coffee flat rate with a large play area and our daughter can while away the time for hours with a big cry of joy. Yes, since then I have loved the furniture store almost to death and have forgotten all the marital arguments and annoying furniture assembly that took place there. So for me, buying the Duktig children’s kitchen was an absolute must-have for the children’s room. The very simple Scandinavian design literally invites you to dream and pimp your play kitchen. The second shopping trip was of course to the hardware store, where people shopped diligently.
You need:
1 x Worktop Adhesive Film (I chose a marble look). You can easily apply this with a plastic spatula. You will certainly find it in your baking utensils. Cost: around 5 euros.
1 x chipboard for the back wall. Cost: approx. 2.50 euros
1 x adhesive film or wallpaper for the back wall of the kitchen. (I wanted to give the kitchen a dreamy vintage look). Cost: approx. 20 euros
1 x paste for wallpapering the wallpaper. Cost: approx. 5.25 euros I would recommend using an adhesive primer before wallpapering, otherwise the wallpaper will start to separate from the wood after a while. 🙁
1 x spray paint decorative effect in gold. Cost: approx. 11 euros. I recommend not spraying the sink, faucet, kitchen rod with hooks, or kitchen legs in closed rooms and without children present, as the smell is very strong. To ensure that the gold doesn’t chip off or stick to the plastic, a spray for plastic primer must be used as a first step. This way you can avoid annoying sanding and unsightly scratches. Cost: approx. 11 euros
4 x Oven Knobs You can easily find it at the hardware store or on etsy.
Danger! Of course, all of these steps must be done before setting up the children’s kitchen.
If all the prices scare you away from pimping out the children’s kitchen, I can recommend that you find another friend who also wants to pimp up her play kitchen. If you share the costs, it won’t be that expensive and you’ll have a lot of fun together. The Dustik children’s kitchen can often be purchased for half price on eBay classifieds.
