One of the many startups that you should definitely keep an eye on is the million-dollar Cologne startup eternal.ag. The young robotics and AgTech startup relies on autonomous harvesting robots for greenhouses.
“We eliminate the biggest risk in greenhouse operations: labor insecurity. Our autonomous robots take on demanding, repetitive work on the plants around the clock,” says the concept. The young company’s first product has the obvious name Harvester, a fully autonomous harvesting robot for tomato greenhouses.
The Düsseldorf early-stage investor Simon Capital, Oyster Bay Venture Capital, EquityPitcher Ventures and Backbone Ventures recently invested 8 million euros in the company, which was founded in 2025 by Renji John and Sherry Kunjachan. 26 employees currently work for eternal.ag.
“Climate change, a shortage of skilled workers and increasing demand are pushing food production to its limits. Greenhouse cultivation is one of the most efficient and sustainable methods for producing fresh products all year round. But the labor shortage is endangering the industry, and robotics is the only future-proof solution to build a decentralized, resilient food supply for the next generation. The experienced team at eternal.ag clearly understands the challenges faced by producers and has developed a solution that addresses them sustainably and with a sense of proportion,” says Niklas Leske from Simon Capital on the investment. Simon Capital now holds around 14.4% of AgTech from the Rhineland.
