First Ternus decisions: The new VR-AR roadmap | News

It was already said last year that John Ternus was increasingly involved in far-reaching corporate decisions. Since the official confirmation that Cook will be moving to Ternus this fall, he is likely to have the main responsibility, although Cook is currently still formally CEO. Hardly anyone expects fundamental changes in course, but according to various reports, at least in one sector that is exactly what is happening. Ternus assesses the market for AR/VR headsets quite differently than Cook – apparently not just recently. This has consequences for the roadmap.

Vision Pro: From “maybe” to “not at all”
Ming-Chi Kuo contributes an updated assessment that deals with Apple’s plans for the next three product years. Based on his sources, there is no longer any indication that we will see a second generation of the Vision Pro at some point that will have more than just a chip update. He corrected the forecast “possibly in 2-3 years” to “Ternus has completely removed the Vision Pro 2 from the roadmap”. At best, minimal adjustments would be conceivable, for example there are pictures of a black housing circulating:

Smart glasses are the big topic
Instead, Ternus is working hard to develop smart glasses, with the aim of bringing them to market as early as 2027. While the first generation probably has no display area, the technology will be ready for such an expansion by 2029. In a sense, conventional glasses with computer and AR functions would offer what a bulky headset is currently required to do.

“Vision Air”, on the other hand, has not been abandoned, but is not a priority
Even if the Vision Pro reportedly doesn’t get a direct successor, the idea of a lighter, slimmed-down Vision isn’t entirely off the table. What is often referred to in the rumor mill as “Vision Air” is still in development. Just a few days ago Mark Gurman also had this topic
reportedbut stated that the product in question cannot be expected before 2028 – if it ever comes onto the market at all.
