Amazon is considered the best-known and largest online mail order company in the world. However, the group has long since expanded into other industries and offers its services in the areas of video-on-demand, music streaming and cloud computing, among other things. Now Amazon is announcing the next step: Companies can now rely on Amazon Supply Chain Services (ASCS) to handle logistics. These services can be used independently of Amazon’s online shop and compete with traditional logistics companies such as DHL and FedEx. Amazon takes care of the entire process
Amazon releases its in-house logistics infrastructure for other companies. This not only includes shipping, but also other essential processes that are crucial in a supply chain: ASCS takes care of collecting the goods from the manufacturer, transport, customs clearance and warehousing. Over 100 aircraft and over 80,000 truck trailers are available for this purpose. Amazon primarily wants to cover areas such as the automotive industry, the food industry and the health, fashion and electronics sectors. ASCS also appeals to those companies that only require freight services to transport raw materials or ship to global distribution centers. Procter & Gamble and 3M are already taking this route, according to Amazon.

Amazon promises fast deliveries and high reliability
Above all, Amazon’s all-in-one logistics system promises high reliability: the company has been testing the network for its own needs for years. 13 billion items are currently delivered to customers every year. ASCS can also react quickly and flexibly to changes in the supply chain and to peak demand. The delivery time is two to five days, and delivery takes place every day of the week. Amazon Supply Chain Services has set up a dedicated website for customers to find out about the possibilities of the new offer.
