Beiersdorf Venture Capital
+++ Millions for skin care innovations! The Hamburg skin care company Beiersdorf (Nivea) is launching its second corporate venture capital fund (100 million euros). “The new Skin Care Innovation Fund doubles the volume of the first fund launched in 2020 and underlines Beiersdorf’s claim to be a leader in skin care,” the company said. Beiersdorf Venture Capital (BVC) invests worldwide in all kinds of topics related to skin care (life sciences, biotechnology, sustainability, AI technologies and health solutions). Beiersdorf’s corporate venture capital arm initially invests between 500,000 euros and 5 million (seed to series B). BVC’s portfolio, led by Ascan Voswinckel, includes companies such as S-Biomedic, Vincere Biosciences and Turbine. In Germany, the financier, formerly known as Oscar&Paul, has a stake in Dermanostic (10.6%). The Düsseldorf startup, founded in 2020, is pushing into the booming telemedicine market. The young startup focuses on dermatologists. More about BVC
TerraSpark
+++ Restart in space! Tier Mobility founder Matthias Laug, who most recently worked as Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO) at Berlin-based ClimateTech Enter, is back with TerraSpark. The startup (based in Luxembourg), which Laug founded together with Tradler founder Jasper Deprez and Sanjay Vijendran, who most recently worked at ESA, relies on Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) and thus on solar energy from space. “Harnessing the sun where she always shines – in space – and delivering it wirelessly to Earth,” writes the team about the idea, which sounds a bit like science fiction. The French investor Daphni, better ventures, Hans(wo)men Group, and business angels recently invested 5.4 million euros in. “The financing will be used to further develop the technology and prepare for initial pilot applications and live tests,” it says about the investment. CoachHub
++++ Number check! The Berlin EdTech CoachHub, which has raised around 265 million in recent years, presents its annual financial statements for 2024. In the reporting period, the company, which connects managers and employees of companies with coaches, generated sales of around 67.5 million euros – after 56 million and 35 million in previous years. The consolidated annual loss fell to 22.8 million – after 68 million and 113 million in previous years. “The business development in the 2024 reporting year is rated as very successful. We managed to significantly increase sales revenue and at the same time significantly optimize the cost structure. This laid the foundation for sustainably profitable development,” it says in the annual financial statements. The company employed an average of 402 employees in 2024 (previous year: 506). As a result, EdTech personnel expenses fell by 24% – from 57.1 million to 43.6 million. In total, building CoachHub by the end of 2024 already cost around 255 million. “Additional financing” is not currently planned. “The management assumes that, according to the current liquidity planning, the existing liquidity and equity base will be sufficient beyond the forecast period of June 2026 to meet all existing liabilities and those likely to arise by this point in time.” says the company. The team also points out that the group also has a previously unused revolving credit line of up to 20 million available as a liquidity reserve. CoachHub seems to be on track. More about CoachHub
