Filled into pretty bottles and decorated for winter, you’ll quickly have a small Christmas present ready. The creamy cream liqueur with Amarettini cookies tastes particularly good served over ice – then the almond and marzipan aroma of the creamy liqueur develops particularly well.

What are Amarettini?

You’ve definitely tried amarettini before. Behind them are the small, round Italian macarons that are very hard and taste like almonds. You get the almond cookies with your coffee every now and then. “Amarettini” is derived – as you can probably guess – from the word “Amaretto”, a diminutive of the Italian term “amaro”, which means “bitter” and points to the origin of the almond-marzipan aroma that is typical of the Amaretto liqueur: bitter almond. The same taste is also in the small Amarettini.

What is the difference between Amarettini and Amaretti?

It doesn’t matter whether you use Amarettini or Amaretti for the recipe, because it’s the same almond pastry, just in different sizes. While with Amarettini the small almond cookies are meant Amaretti on the larger versions of the macarons. Both consist of egg whites, sugar and ground almonds and/or bitter almond flavor. And you can make wonderful liqueur from both.
