What makes One Piece one of the most memorable anime series is how varied the character designs are. Each character has distinct features and a rotation of outfits that keep them fresh and fun to look at. Another reason they feel so unique to themselves is that their silhouettes are unmistakable. A fan would be able to identify exactly which One Piece character they were looking at.
While it’s entirely subjective what a “perfect” design constitutes, these One Piece characters are among the most outstanding. Every detail is deliberate and carefully thought out by Eiichiro Oda, conveying the purpose and power of these characters.
“Ghost Princess” Perona Shows How Gothic Can Be Cute

Perona, an eccentric antagonist in the Thriller Bark Arc and later an ally, has one of the most fun designs in One Piece. Eiichiro Oda’s most criticized flaw is that the female designs suffer from same-face syndrome, but Perona is proof that he can design a woman without making another copy of Nami. At times, she seems like she belongs in a different anime.
It’s hard to pinpoint one thing about Perona’s design that makes it great. Her round eyes with asymmetrical lower eyelashes, marked with heavy eyeliner, and her cute smile make her distinguishable from other female characters. Her waist-length light pink hair, tied into twin pigtails, makes it even more adorable. Perona’s outfit consists of a long-sleeved white top with black hearts, a red skirt with a heart buckle belt, and black-and-white striped stockings. This is complete with a red cape, an umbrella, a crown at the top of her head, and red buckled boots.
After the time-skip, Perona loosens her twin braids into multiple spiral braids. She ditches the crown for a hat with white floral decor. The most noticeable change to Perona’s design is that she wears a strapless, floor-length black dress with lavender frills, red-heeled boots, dons a pink bat tattoo on her left bicep, and wears a watch on her wrist. Overall, Perona subverts the stereotypical goth design by adding cute elements that reflect her childish personality.

Trafalgar Law Remains Iconic and Popular Among Fans
As one of the most beloved supporting characters in One Piece who quickly grabbed the spotlight, Trafalgar Law’s design is striking. His deadpan face with facial hair and piercings is the makings of a typical “cool” anime character. While it’s simpler compared to many others, Law’s tattoos and fashion make him hard to forget.
Law’s intricate tattoos include stylized heart symbols on his chest and biceps, honoring the person who saved his life, Corazon. The one on his chest features the Heart Pirates’ Jolly Roger in the middle, with his back donning a full version of it. Each of his fingers is tattooed with letters that spell “Death” on both hands, which nods to his moniker, “Surgeon of Death.” He also has unidentified tattoos on his forearms and the back of his hands.
As for his outfit, Law’s shirt constantly changes every arc, but his spotted blue trousers and white spotted hat remain consistent. He usually wears hues of blue, yellow, black, or white. Law also often wears an iconic blue captain’s coat with fur trim. Overall, the perfection of Law’s design lies in the details, catching the eye of many One Piece fans.
Prince Loki of Elbaph Exudes Punk Energy with Nordic Elements

While Loki was foreshadowed back in the Whole Cake Island Arc, his physical appearance is only revealed in One Piece’s Elbaph Arc. His silhouette deliberately fooled fans into thinking he’d have a much goofier design, something Oda did with Kaido, too. Loki might be a relatively new character, but his design is becoming a slow favorite of many.
The physical appearance of Loki shocked the community with his menacing yet fun appearance, speaking with his tongue sticking out. It’s especially effective as he was chained up in Elbaph’s Underworld. Loki’s height is incredibly imposing from the start, even when sitting. His wild magenta hair with two braids at the front adds the punk element to it.
Complementing his magenta hair, Loki wears a purple fluffy coat. Underneath, he only wears black leather pants and boots with a belt over his abdomen. He has a magenta pointed goatee and a metal shell over his nose. The horned black helmet is a nod to Elbaph’s Viking inspiration.
Under his bandaged eyes, Loki reveals slit pupils with black sclera, a unique feature no giants have. He tragically hides them after his birth mother declares he’s too “hideous.” For fans, however, it only makes Loki more fierce. What accentuates his strength are the red eagle wing tattoos on his arms. One Piece did not disappoint fans who waited years for Loki’s reveal.
Donquixote Doflamingo is the Embodiment of Chaos

The main antagonist and one of the many highlights of the Dressrosa Arc, Donquixote Doflamingo, is among the best-designed characters in One Piece. His iconic outfits reflect his chaotic personality perfectly. While most villainsare designed in a darker color scheme, Doflamingo is dressed in mostly pink, orange, and white.
Doflamingo’s eccentric fashion is marked by the huge, bright pink feather coat he wears. Underneath, he wears an unbuttoned white shirt, which sometimes might have red patterns on it, darker pink pants with white stripes, and black dress shoes, adding a touch of formality. Doffy’s blond hair and perpetually menacing smile are highlighted by the curved, orange-tinted, and white-rimmed sunglasses he wears.
In Law’s backstory, Doflamingo keeps his signature pink coat and sunglasses, but opts for a red suit. He’s equally fun yet sinister in both versions. With a 10-foot-tall imposing frame and strange gait, it’s tough to forget a character like Doflamingo. His iconic fashion can never be recreated in One Piece or any other anime.
Queen Otohime’s Elegance Reflects Her Idealistic Personality

One of the most overlooked yet impactful characters in One Piece, Queen Otohime, has an amazing design. The perfection of it lies in the fact that her optimistic personality and purpose mirror it. Otohime was the queen of the Ryugu Kingdom and a political activist who fought hard for the rights of fish-men to live as equals. Despite the setbacks she faced from humans and even her own people, she never gave up on hope.
Queen Otohime’s design is heavily inspired by the goddess Otohime, the younger daughter of the Japanese sea god Ryujin, who is also described as kind and beautiful. It also incorporates elements of a goldfish, a nod to her goldfish mermaid roots. She has a delicate build with a soft face and golden blonde hair, with two loops on top held by an orange headpiece.
Much like the goddess but with a different color scheme, Otohime wears a long white kimono with cream carp-scale designs on her sleeves and below the chest, with a white and red Obi securing it. Her tail features bright orange scales with beige frills at the end. A white sash floats behind Otohime, giving her a goddess-like elegance. Overall, she may not be the most prominent One Piece character, having died 10 years before the current time, but Otohime’s design is perfect for her character.
