It is becoming increasingly difficult for Apple to keep details of iPhone product innovations secret: When the iPhone Air was released in fall 2025, most of the details had already been leaked. There is also a lot of credible core data in circulation for this year’s models. The reports on the 2027 models are now becoming more concrete: Apple is apparently looking for a supplier for an edge-enclosing display. According to the busy Weibo account “Digital Chat Station”, Apple is currently negotiating with Samsung Displays for a particularly innovative OLED touchscreen design: The imaging element is intended to fill not only the front but also the side edges of the future iPhone with content. The smallest possible radius of curvature should be used. So we should stick with the flat edges, which have been standard since the iPhone 12.
OLED without polarization
To achieve this, Apple is relying on a new design for the OLED display: the all-round screens should do without the polarization layer. This task is performed by a film that is placed over the imaging element. This design is called CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation), Samsung often uses the term On-Cell Film (OCF) instead. The advantage: The display element is flatter and is up to two and a half times brighter.

2027 is a big anniversary
It is said that not all of the details of the 2027 iPhone have been clarified yet – so it is uncertain whether it will work without “Dynamic Island”. An invisible FaceTime camera integrated into the screen is the stated goal; It remains unclear whether this will be marketable in time. The flagship iPhone of 2027 has an important symbolic character for Apple: the first iPhone came onto the market in June 2007. It quickly became the company’s highest-selling product, which it still is today. The touchscreen smartphone, which does not require a keypad, ushered in the smartphone age. A screen that extends beyond the edges to turn the entire device into a screen would be a logical continuation of developments over the years.
