With a delay: macOS 26.4.1 also appeared | News

Apple usually updates all system platforms in one go, but in the case of version 26.4.1 they chose a different approach. Initially the update was only released for iOS and iPadOS, but now 26.4.1 is also available for the Mac. This time you can agree with the recommendation from the update description to install it immediately, because the update offers important bug fixes in connection with the synchronization of iCloud content. There had been some problems here since April 26, because CloudKit’s mechanism, which informs apps about changes, no longer worked reliably.

iCloud sync sometimes hung or stopped working at all
The errors in question sometimes manifested themselves in faltering or even complete refusal of sync from iCloud. Regardless of whether it was the photo library, reminders, calendar entries, Apple’s in-house password app or third-party apps, the synchronization often stalled and changed content was no longer updated on other devices.

Although this would be relevant information, Apple unfortunately only uses meaningless standard descriptions in the official release notes. However, it can be assumed that macOS 26.4.1 will bring the same bug fixes as iOS 26.4.1.

Another point from iOS 26.4.1 does not affect the Mac. “Protection for stolen devices” only affects iPhones – since the update, the mode has also been active by default on devices managed in the company. Access to stored passwords or credit card data then requires additional biometric authentication.

Download and install
As always, the easiest way to update is to simply use the corresponding function in the macOS system settings under General/Software Update. The usual note: If the update cannot be seen, a little patience is simply required – not all update servers receive the new version at the same time.
