Which mystery box is worth it?

Advertisement / product test

Mystery boxes have always disappointed me! I have already tried these machines in Berlin. You pay around 10 euros, get some kind of package and hope that there is something really exciting inside. In the end, you usually end up with some plastic part that you don’t need, don’t understand and don’t actually want to keep.

I also tested it on vacation in Brazil. There seemed to be such machines on every corner. Of course I was curious. Of course I tried it. And of course there was only junk in it again.

So why try it again? This Online shop for exciting mystery boxes advertises that the product value is significantly higher than the value paid. Let’s see if it’s really that good!

What is behind the Mystery Box Classic?

At mystery-box.de you can choose from four categories: Starter, Classic, Deluxe and Gold Box. Prices start at 25 euros and go up to 100 euros per box. The value of the goods is always stated as at least twice the value. With the Classic Box you pay 50 euros and should receive products worth at least 100 euros.

The shop describes the boxes as a mix of different areas. It can include technology, accessories for the kitchen or travel, lifestyle products, decoration, beauty or gadgets. It’s exactly this mix that makes it exciting. You don’t know what’s coming beforehand.

Because surprise is nice. But surprise can also mean: you get things that no one else wanted to buy. This has mostly been the case for me with the machines. That’s why I was curious whether a mystery box ordered online is really better.

The Classic Box is something like the middle version. Not the smallest box to test, but not the most expensive either. I wanted to see what you get for 50 euros and whether the promised value of the goods is really understandable.

The Unboxing: What was in my box?

The box arrived to me as a plain white cardboard box. There was a large mystery box sticker on the front. When I unpacked it, I got it straight away Packing list seen. All of the products in my box were listed on it, including individual and total value. The stated value of my Mystery Box Classic was 124.62 euros.

This is a big difference from the machines I have tested so far. You get a package of some kind and then have to find out for yourself what you actually just bought.

The following products were in my box:

  • Hama Fit Watch 4910
  • Kodak LED flashlight
  • Hamburger Press
  • multicolored hammock
  • small wire saw
  • Philips dual USB car charger
  • Qi wireless charger from InnovaGoods

So it’s a pretty wild mix. Technology, household, outdoor, kitchen. Exactly what you kind of expect from a mystery box.

Hama Fit Watch 4910

The Hama Fit Watch 4910 was the biggest product in the box for me. I honestly didn’t expect a smartwatch in a mystery box for 50 euros. Of course, this isn’t an Apple Watch. But it is absolutely usable as a fitness watch, as an everyday watch or as a gift. My boyfriend has always wanted to try out a fitness watch and is about to inherit it. For me the watch was the highlight of the box. It significantly improves the overall impression.

Kodak LED flashlight

The Kodak LED flashlight sounds unspectacular at first. But honestly, you need something like this all the time. We recently had a full day of power outage and I sorely missed that in our household.

For me it falls into the category: I probably wouldn’t buy it spontaneously, but I’m happy that I have it now.

Hamburger Press

I found the hamburger press almost the funniest thing when I unpacked it. Such a product is typical Mystery Box. You don’t expect it, but you immediately understand what it’s good for.

I don’t eat meat myself, but that doesn’t mean the press is useless. You can also use it to form vegetarian patties or use it when guests make burgers. This is practical for summer, barbecue evenings or kitchen experiments.

Multicolored hammock

The hammock was one of the larger products in the box. According to the packing list it costs 28 euros and is therefore one of the higher rated items. I was really positively surprised here. It doesn’t feel like flimsy disposable material. The material seems sturdier than I expected.

Of course, not everyone immediately has the perfect spot for a hammock. This is sometimes the case in Berlin. But it’s nice for the balcony, garden, park, camping or vacation. I find it particularly suitable as a summer product.

Small wire saw

The small wire saw is probably the most special product in the box. I had to laugh for a moment because I don’t often think in my everyday life: a wire saw would be practical now. But well, maybe I just don’t live enough of a survival style.

It can be useful for camping, gardening or outdoor trips. For my normal everyday life, not so much. For me, this is the article that I personally can’t get started with.

Philips dual USB car charger

The Philips car charger is a practical product, but not the highlight for me personally. I don’t have a car. That’s why it’s not something I use straight away. Still, it’s not a bad product. If you have a car, you can always use a charger like this. Two USB ports are practical, especially when traveling or when several people want to charge at the same time.

Qi wireless charger from InnovaGoods

The Qi Wireless Charger is a wireless charging pad. Put your phone on it, let it charge, done. I find such products practical if they work easily. It’s not an incredibly exciting gadget, but it’s useful. A charging pad can quickly find its place, especially at home at the desk or on the bedside table.

Is the Mystery Box Classic worth it?

The most important question is of course: Is this mystery box really worth it? For me: yes, but with one caveat.

You must like surprises. If you know exactly what you need, then it’s better to buy exactly this product. A mystery box is not a shopping list. You don’t necessarily get things that fit your everyday life perfectly.

But if you’re interested in unboxing and are open to a mix of technology, household, outdoor and gadgets, then the Classic Box is exciting.

The stated value of my box was 124.62 euros. You would have paid 50 euros. Even if I view individual prices critically, for me it remains a good value.

Especially because there wasn’t a product that I would immediately classify as garbage. This was different in my previous mystery box experiences. When I used the machines, I often had the feeling that I had exchanged money for disappointment.

It was different here. Not every product is perfect for me. But everything is basically usable. Have you ever tried a mystery box? Was there anything good in it for you or was it more like money in, disappointment out?
