Shooting outfits, writing texts, editing photos and posting them online – sounds like fun, right? It is too. But: It’s only a small part of blogging. Anyone who wants to restart in 2025 should know what’s really behind it. After over 10 years as a content creator I have gained a lot of experience there.

You are permanently online – even if you don’t plan it

Sure, today there are endless content platforms: Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn and of course your own blog. If you want to be successful, you have to be visible – and that means being online.

Social media detox sounds nice, but the reality is: you will spend a lot of time in apps, tools and platforms. Creating content, posting it, responding to comments, keeping an eye on trends, testing new features – that takes up time. And yes, it sometimes annoys those around you when you’re always on your cell phone. Blogging in the summer is a completely different topic when you would actually rather be outside.

Successful creators not only share their outfits or recipes, but often also a lot about their everyday lives. That makes you approachable, but it also means: You have to decide how much you really want to show. Bloggers who share a lot about themselves and their lives (like Novalanalove or Masha Sedgwick) are particularly successful! You have to want that – not everyone wants to reveal so much about themselves online, because it also makes you vulnerable.

20% create content, 80% promote

The biggest mistake: You write great articles and think they will find readers on their own. They don’t.

SEO, social media, newsletters, Pinterest strategy, ads – the biggest part of the work is getting people to see your content in the first place. And for this you have to take action:

  • Newsletter & Community: Build your own base that doesn’t depend on algorithms
  • Understanding SEO: Keywords, meta descriptions, internal links
  • Use social media strategically: Choose platforms, post regularly, test trends
  • Networking: Exchange ideas with other creators, enter into collaborations, write guest posts

You can deliver perfect content and still never achieve much reach. This is tough, but realistic. Algorithms are constantly changing, trends come and go.

Success requires perseverance, luck and often the right time. But one thing is for sure: Blogging is no fun without passion and patience.

You have to keep reinventing yourself

Standstill will be the death knell for blogs and social media in 2025. Anyone who has been making the same content for years will eventually lose their readers.

  • Test new formats: Reels, shorts, blog articles, newsletters, podcasts
  • Expand topics: lifestyle, travel, finance, sustainability, parenting – what suits you?
  • Keep design & technology up to date: mobile speed, SEO updates, modern layout

The unique selling point is crucial. There are millions of blogs. Why should anyone read yours?

Are you ready to learn?

Blogging in 2025 means: You have to be interested in constantly learning new things.

  • SEO
  • Video editing
  • photography
  • AI tools for content creation
  • Law & Data Protection (GDPR!)

Many creators invest in online courses, coaching or master classes. If you don’t want to, you can learn a lot of things yourself – but it will take longer.

Do you want to invest money?

A professional blog costs money:

  • Domain & Hosting: At least €100-150 per year
  • Technology: camera, smartphone, laptop, microphone
  • Theme & Plugins: Premium themes, SEO tools, newsletter software
  • Continuing education: courses, workshops, books

Some start minimalistic and build up slowly. Others invest in good equipment and technology right from the start. Both are possible – but blogging in 2025 will not be free.

Conclusion: Blogging in 2025 is not a “hobby on the side”

If you just want to post something every now and then, that’s totally okay. But if you want to build reach, community or even revenue, you have to invest time, energy and sometimes money.
