What does coaching mean to me?

Before I started my coaching journey, I faced some challenges in my job. I felt like I could be more confident in meetings, had difficulty prioritizing and delegating effectively, and felt something was off in my communication. However, after completing my sessions as a coachee, I can confidently say that I have overcome these issues. The growth I have experienced has been truly profound, so much so that I consider coaching one of the most meaningful life experiences I have had. So what does coaching mean to me? For me, coaching is a transformative journey of self-discovery and continuous development. I have experienced the enormous power of active listening, empathy and effective questioning in coaching. These skills have allowed me to gain clarity, make important decisions, and overcome obstacles with unwavering determination.

A few words about my coaching journey

My coaching experience disproved common misconceptions and opened up new ways of thinking. Now I believe that you don’t need more than four coaching sessions to achieve the learning goals within an area. Coaching also transcends geographical boundaries because it can take place online. I experienced the seamless nature of online coaching and it exceeded all my expectations. Additionally, the business coaches I have had are highly respected experts in their fields and it is just a matter of finding the perfect coach or coaching provider to guide and support you on your journey.

As far as the coaching itself is concerned, I have personally done three coaching trips so far, each time on a specific topic, spread over four sessions. I was coached to lead confidently and effectively, to delegate and to increase my work productivity. Due to the condensed and agile format, including the face-to-face approach, it was extremely effective. As a result, I became more organized and my confidence improved. Prioritizing tasks based on urgency, impact, and the 80/20 rule increased my productivity. This can all be traced back to an internal change in mentality that my communication with the coach triggered. The highly focused format of Sparrks, my coaching provider, tailored the journey to the unique challenges I face. It was all about me, my challenges and how I can overcome them.

What does coaching mean for me?

Coaching means connecting personally with your coach because you can benefit from the experience of someone who has already faced the challenges you are struggling with. In a personal format, the coach can concentrate fully on you. I now consider coaching to be the best form of professional development. It is also one of the most profound experiences a company can offer its employees. As I said at the beginning, coaching is a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth that most professionals need in great measure. It’s a chance to learn what coaches have learned through decades of work experience.

Final comments

All the professionals I spoke to had similar experiences and experienced immense benefits from coaching. This explains why the coaching industry (especially in Germany, where I live and work) is growing rapidly. As more and more companies recognize the concrete benefits for their employees, the industry will continue to grow. And this means that employees who receive coaching (regardless of whether they are lower managers or top managers) will also become better in their area.
