After I was sick in bed in the first two weeks of January, I spent an above-average amount of time with Netflix etc. and binge-watched one or two series (sorry for this strange word, but there is no good German equivalent). And today I would like to introduce you to three series that I was VERY excited about.
And speaking of favorite series: This week the first episode of the third season of Shrinking went online on Apple TV+. One of the best series I know and VERY worth watching (all the better if you haven’t seen it yet and still have the first two seasons ahead of you.)
Three first Netflix series highlights of 2026
His & Hers
Without wanting to give spoilers right from the start, here’s a little note about the finale of the mini-series: you would NEVER guess the ending during the course of the plot. The plot twists are truly phenomenal!
Briefly about the plot: The former news anchor Anna lives in seclusion in Atlanta after the death of her daughter. When she learns of a murder in her hometown of Dahlonega, she decides to return there to investigate herself. She repeatedly clashes with Detective Jack Harper, who is not the responsible investigator but also Anna’s estranged husband. Both knew the victim and there was a motive… So exciting that you would like to watch all the episodes at once!
Younger
Why am I recommending a ten year old series? Because it has only recently been available on Netflix and is (rightly!) experiencing a huge amount of hype. And that’s what it’s about: After separating from her husband, 40-year-old Liza has to get back into working life after many years as a housewife and mother, but only receives rejections – on the one hand because she was “out” for so long, and on the other hand because of her age.
In a bar she meets 26-year-old Josh, who thinks she is the same age. Her friend Maggie then convinces her to pretend to be younger and adjust her identity accordingly. So Liza finally manages to get a job as assistant to the marketing manager Diana at the book publisher Empirical Press. A really nice, light feel-good series with lots of New York impressions, lots of humor and likeable characters!
Don’t look for me
There are now many Harlan Coben film adaptations on Netflix, and to be honest: personally, not all of them impressed me. However, I really liked the latest mini-thriller series, in which a father desperately searches for his daughter Paige. Shortly after starting college, Paige became addicted to drugs and distanced herself from her family. She lives with her boyfriend Aaron, who Simon (the father) beats up during an encounter in the park because he prevents him from pursuing Paige, who has fled from him. The situation is filmed and goes viral on social media. Shortly afterwards, Aaron is found dead, Simon is suspected of murder and Paige disappears without a trace.
