Actually planned for the MacBook Air in 2022
Although there were various color variants in the early days of iBooks, Apple subsequently relied on white, silver, dark or muted colors for notebooks. According to the leaker Instant Digital, Apple actually wanted to change that in 2022 with the fundamentally redesigned MacBook Air M2, but decided against it. The colorful casings found on the iMac were originally intended to apply to the MacBook Air as well. The plan was born years ago, but is obviously only now being implemented.
Mark Gurman stated a few days ago that Apple had tried more than just yellow, green and blue (namely also purple, classic silver and dark gray), but in all likelihood it wouldn’t come with quite as many versions. According to Instant Digital, the three colors that will actually appear in the week of March 4th are those from the invitation graphic (see yesterday’s message).

Shake up the Chromebook market with a MacBook?
If the reports about prices far below $1,000 are correct, Apple is likely to cause quite a bit of unrest in a market sector that has so far only been addressed through third-party discount campaigns: notebooks in the lower price segment. Although you don’t quite get into the realms of cheaper Chromebooks (often under $400), you do get into those of higher-quality budget devices.
