Technically speaking, it makes no difference where you buy the iPhone 17 Pro, because the device is the same everywhere in the world. When it comes to price, however, things are different. Depending on the country, customers pay significantly more or even less than in the USA.
Regardless of whether it is a game console, television or graphics card: We Europeans are used to consumer electronics costing more than in the USA or parts of Asia. The difference is particularly clear with the iPhone, as very high surcharges sometimes apply here. And in some regions of the world, Apple’s current flagship is an absolute luxury item for which customers have to pay many times the price in the USA.
These factors influence the price of the iPhone 17 Pro
In the USA, the iPhone 17 Pro costs $1,181 – that’s currently around 1,038 euros. The only place in the world where the smartphone is cheaper is Japan – it costs $1,121. That’s about 95 percent of the price Americans have to pay. And South Korea is exactly at the American level. All other nations pay extra (via dbresearch).
The countries in the DACH region all land somewhere in the middle. Germany and Austria share 20th place with 1,508 US dollars (around 1,326 euros) each, meaning they pay around 28 percent more. The Swiss get off a little more lightly, with only 1,385 US dollars (1,217 euros), 27th place and a 17 percent surcharge.
The reasons for the sometimes drastic surcharges are diverse: aspects such as exchange rates, import duties, taxes, regional market conditions and complex supply chains play a role.
We wanted to know in which countries the iPhone 17 Pro is the most expensive. Our ranking is based on the official prices from the Apple Store or from authorized online retailers. The cheapest storage variant is compared. This year it is the 256 gigabyte version after Apple canceled the 128 GB version.
10th place: Finland
Finland starts our top ten. The iPhone 17 Pro costs there $1,578 (around 1,387 euros) and therefore 34 percent more than in the USA. In Scandinavia the price level is already relatively high.
