However, these are quite clear updates because the changes mainly take place in the background. Apple also seems to be putting into operation a function that was introduced with 26.1 at the beginning of November – tests of the “Background Security Improvements” have been running since last month.
The innovations in 26.3
In several respects, Apple complies with current regulations regarding data portability and collaboration with third-party products. Together with Google, they are implementing an easier switch between systems – more precisely, the improved transfer of data when changing platforms. Third-party smartwatches can also display notifications like an Apple Watch, and headphones can be easily paired like the AirPods. Another change that is currently invisible is support for the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro/Max (expected in early March).
By the way, there is no meaningful update description this time; Apple only uses the standard text regarding security improvements and bug fixes.
Further system updates also appeared
watchOS, tvOS and visionOS are also available in version 26.3, although no functional changes were found during the beta phase. As always, updates to the respective major version are also accompanied by security updates to older OS generations. These are:
- iOS 18.7.5
- iPadOS 18.7.5
- macOS Sequoia 15.7.4
- macOS Sonoma 14.8.4
Download and install
As always, the easiest way to update is to simply use the appropriate function in the system settings. If the update cannot be seen, a little patience is simply required – not all update servers receive the new version at the same time. If you are generally a little more cautious, it is advisable to be patient until the first reports of experience circulate.
