On April 22, the world celebrates Earth Day 2026, a hopeful new voice joined the global call for climate action—this time carried not just through politics and pledges, but through music, storytelling, and the imagination of children.
The SUNx Malta (Strong Universal Network) marked the occasion with the release of its vibrant new Dodo4Kids video, “A Symphony for Change.” At the heart of the initiative is a simple yet powerful idea: inspiring young people to become champions for the planet—starting with the oceans.
The four-minute animated musical, composed and performed by platinum award-winning artist Alston Koch, brings to life a resurrected Dodo guiding children on a mission to clean up marine environments. With a catchy melody and an uplifting message, the video blends entertainment with education—making climate awareness accessible and engaging for the next generation.
SUNx Malta – Advancing Climate Friendly Travel
SUNx Malta is a Climate Friendly Travel system, focused on transforming the global tourism sector that is low-carbon, SDG-linked, and nature-positive.
Professor Geoffrey Lipman, President of SUNx Malta, described the project as a joyful collaboration with purpose:
“It’s always a pleasure to produce music with Alston for the good of our planet. And this time, to incorporate our Dodo4Kids in the video encouraging the next generation of young climate champions to help save our seas.”
A Festival Rooted in Legacy
The video release also serves as a prelude to the Strong Earth Festival, scheduled for April 29—“Earth Day + 7.” The festival honors the legacy of Maurice Strong, a towering figure in global environmental governance.
Strong’s contributions helped shape the modern sustainability movement, including organizing the landmark Stockholm Conference 1972 and the Rio Earth Summit 1992. These events laid the groundwork for international agreements on climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development goals. He also co-launched the Earth Charter in 2000 alongside Mikhail Gorbachev.
Music with a mission
For Koch, the collaboration continues a long-standing journey of climate-focused creativity:
“We have been working on climate songs together since the first release in 2009 of our ‘Act Now’ video at World Travel Market. Since then, we’ve performed at major global events—from Bali to Glasgow. I wrote this song because the climate horizon is darkening, and our kids and grandkids are our best hope for a brighter future.”
A Global Network for Change
The initiative is supported by a broad coalition of SDG 17 partners, including the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism, and the Earth Charter Institute, among others. Together, they amplify the message that collaboration is essential to tackling climate challenges.
SUNx Malta itself continues to build on Maurice Strong’s vision, promoting Climate Friendly Travel that is low-carbon, aligned with the Paris Agreement, and connected to the Sustainable Development Goals. Supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and working with institutions like the Institute of Tourism Studies Malta and the World Tourism Network, SUNx focuses on education, innovation, and global engagement.
