Spring lawn care: This is how your garden becomes lush green again (and stays that way)

Hello everyone, there is that one moment of the year: The sun is a little higher, the birds are getting louder – and I look out the window into the garden and think to myself: “Okay lawn, now it’s your turn again.” After winter, the area usually looks more like a gray-green carpet with character than a rich golf course feeling. But that’s exactly the magic of spring: everything gets a second chance. And yes – your lawn too!

My first step is always very simple: some raking. Not aggressive, but more like a friendly tickle awakening. Remove leaves, old stalks and moss so that air can reach the turf again. You’ll be surprised how much accumulates over the winter. When the ground is no longer frozen and appears to be slightly dry, you can also scarify. But please don’t do it too soon – I rushed this once and my lawn insulted me all summer.

Spring also means: recharge your batteries. And that’s exactly what the lawn needs now. A good fertilizer is like a proper breakfast after hibernation. I notice every year: If I skip this step, the lawn remains somehow tired. With fertilizer, on the other hand, this little miracle happens – within a few days everything looks livelier, denser, greener. After winter there are almost always small bare spots. I affectionately call them “lawn craters.” This is exactly where reseeding is worth it. Simply roughen it slightly, put seeds on it, press it down, keep it moist – done. The nice thing about it: you can often see how everything comes full circle again after just one or two weeks. Almost like a natural puzzle. When watering in spring, less is often more. Natural rain is usually sufficient, unless it becomes unusually dry. Then it’s better to water less often, but thoroughly. My personal tip: water in the morning. Then the lawn has all day to dry out again and remains healthier overall.

I’ll be honest: I used to do a lot of things just based on feeling. Today I also like to use systems and aids that give me structure and reduce effort. And who can help me here more reliably than no one! Because the goal there is precisely to get a well-maintained, healthy lawn without having to fight through complicated technical terms or endless garden forums. That makes things surprisingly relaxed. Since then, lawn care for me in spring has not been an annoying chore, but rather a small ritual. I go outside, look at the traces of winter and think to myself every year: “All right, we’ll get you back in shape.” And that’s exactly what happens – step by step. With a little patience, a little care, a little water and the right timing, the tired winter lawn becomes that lush, green area again that you want to walk on barefoot without thinking. The beauty!? The package with the fertilizer tailored to my lawn and the appropriate reseeding simply arrives by post, exactly at the right time! It couldn’t be more relaxed! I’m already full of anticipation when my lawn wakes up from hibernation and the lush green delights me every day! And honestly, that’s exactly why we do it!

Sincerely,

Looks like…COJA
