Siri AI postponement costs Apple $250 million
It is precisely this delay that is also the reason why Apple has to pay a total of $250 million in compensation in the United States. In May of this year, the company agreed to go to the relevant court to settle a corresponding class action lawsuit. This had already been submitted in spring 2025, shortly after Apple postponed the release of Siri AI. The iPhone manufacturer originally wanted to integrate most of the functions of the new AI-based voice assistant into iOS 18, but this was not possible for various reasons (see ).
Siri AI: Fully announced and then not delivered
Apple’s problem in this matter: The company had already fully announced Siri AI at WWDC in 2024 and promoted it prominently on its own websites. There was also a corresponding commercial on television with Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey. When the feature took a long time and was finally officially postponed, the aforementioned class action lawsuit arose. Apple argued in the proceedings that some of the functions planned for 2024 had actually already been rolled out. Ultimately, however, the company agreed to pay compensation in order to focus on “delivering the most innovative products and services to customers.”
Up to $95 for iPhone buyers in the US, excluding EU customers
However, iPhone owners in the US will probably not be able to claim compensation of up to $95 for a few months. The court still has to make a final decision first, as MacRumors reports. However, this is a formality. Only US customers who purchased an iPhone 15 Pro (Max) or an iPhone 16 (all models) between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 will receive payment. iPhone owners in the EU will naturally come away empty-handed, as the procedure did not affect them and Siri AI will not initially be available on iPhones in the European Union anyway.
