It has been pretty certain for a long time that Apple is converting Siri much more towards a chatbot with iOS 27. Instead of just accepting individual voice commands, the assistant will be able to hold longer conversations, retain context and act as an independent conversation partner, similar to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. However, as already reported, Apple wants to act very cautiously and mark Siri 2 as a beta – not only during the three months between the first developer build and the final version, but also after the general release of iOS 27 for all users. That wouldn’t be entirely new, as the first Siri generation (2011) was also released as a beta at the time.

Do users have to join a waiting list?
Mark Gurman now specifies the information in another report and explains that there are further restrictions. Apple is considering only activating Siri 2 via a waiting list – and not for all users. However, it is unknown whether these are just individual Siri functions or the entire new system. A limit would be conceivable for particularly computing-intensive cloud functions or for functions that are not stable enough in all regions and languages. In any case, Siri is not initially viewed as a completely finished product, but rather requires significantly more time.

Automatic deletion – and other functions

Users should be able to specify whether Siri chats disappear automatically after 30 days, after a year or not at all.
