Documentary tip: Beyoncé & Solange – The Queen of Pop and her soul sister
Beyoncé and Solange Knowles are the most successful sister couple in pop history. But while Beyoncé is systematically built up to become a megastar by her parents, her younger sister, Solange, has to fight for the family’s recognition. It takes a long time for her to step out of her sister’s shadow musically. A double portrait of two unequal exceptional artists. They couldn’t be more different: one is probably the biggest pop star of our time, the other puts her complex artistic demands above commercial success. This is not a coincidental development: While Beyoncé is systematically built up to become a megastar by her parents, her sister, Solange, who is five years younger, has to fight with all her might for support and recognition from her family. It was only later that she managed to step out of her sister’s shadow as an independent artist and emancipate herself musically. The documentary goes in search of clues to Houston, the hometown of the two exceptional artists. Together with companions and friends such as singing teacher David Lee Brewer and pastor Rudy Rasmus, she sheds light on the lives and careers of the dissimilar sisters. As the frontwoman of the band Destiny’s Child, which was managed by her father, Beyoncé began her meteoric career in the late 1990s.
After the group split up in 2006, Beyoncé launched her solo career with seven studio albums and 32 Grammys to date. Solange, however, began her first steps into the spotlight in the second row: first as a background dancer for Destiny’s Child, later as a songwriter for her big sister. But she wants more. Her third solo album “A Seat at the Table” brings the longed-for liberation. The album is critically acclaimed, and Solange wins her first Grammy. After 30 years in her sister’s shadow, she has fought for her place at the table. The entire documentary will be available from Sunday Arte!

Happy Birthday, the weather!
Next fall will be The weather ten years old and precisely for this occasion, the founding duo Sascha Ehlert and Katharina Holzmann are publishing a book with Kiwi Verlag. For ten years, Das Wetter has been one of the most exciting and grandiose print magazines in the country – and that deserves celebration. From the beginning, the magazine celebrated not only pop, the indie music scene or the lyrical qualities of street rap, but also literature. “The Weather Book” brings together the best of the magazines, combined with great, surprising new exclusive material. And we say: Hip Hip Hooray!
Hay x Muller van Severen
Muller van Severen was allowed to design for Hay once again and the result is much more playful than a few seasons before: scallop-inspired edges adorn mirrors and serving trolleys and are becoming one of the color highlights of the coming season!
ASICS x Cecilie Bahnsen
ASICS and Cecilie Bahnsen are also joining forces again and bringing another sneaker collection onto the market that reinterprets the ASICS GT-2160TM sneaker. For this project, Cecilie Bahnsen teamed up with Japanese photographer Takashi Homma, a long-time partner of the brand, to create a visual presentation of the Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS collaboration.

The “MALAIKAMARKET” is online
From now on you can find it under category MALAIKA MARKET on malaikaraiss.com a wonderful selection of products from the areas of interior accessories, lifestyle and art. Among other things, you can see the new “The Little Ladies” art prints from her collab with Anna Zimmermann, but also accessories designed by Malaika that go under the new branding “MR/o – MALAIKARAISS Objects”.
For their first edition they collaborated with a artisan collective from Marrakesh. Using Malaika’s ideas, mouth-blown glassware was created using traditional techniques from recycled materials and the characteristic colors of our collection, complemented by hand-made brass plates with individual artwork. Malaika personally accompanied the production process for almost a whole year from summer 2022, with inspiring visits and creative exchanges. A very nice result, in our opinion!
