Petition: No to the cancellation of parental allowance
In order to meet the savings targets set by Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), Family Minister Lisa Paus (The Greens) plans to halve the income limit for parental allowance and completely eliminate parental allowance for couples with a gross annual income of over 150,000 euros.
According to SPIEGEL information, in the future only couples with a taxable annual income of up to 150,000 euros will be entitled to parental allowance. Previously the income limit was 300,000 euros.
The abolition of parental allowance is seen as a signal against children, against the compatibility of work and family and against equal opportunities for men and women – and all of this is not progress, but rather a step backwards. The petition by Verena Pausder now wants to prevent that!
Book tips
“People of Germany”
Although Germany is a country of diversity, racist thought patterns are still deeply rooted in our society. Racially motivated crimes are reported again and again. If you open social networks, you often don’t have to look far for racist hate messages in the comment columns. Everyday, BIPoCs, i.e. Black, Indigenous and People of Color, encounter not only such open discrimination but also subliminal hostility and microaggressions. Be it when looking for an apartment, in working life or during standard checks by the police. An essential step in critically questioning and breaking down these thought patterns is to listen to those affected and not deny them their experiences.
People of Germany starts right there and brings together 45 personalities from culture, business, sport, fashion and politics who report in personal essays about what it is like to live in Germany as a person of color with a visible migration background. Including Düzen Tekkal, Mola Abedesi, Nikeata Thompson, Hans Sarpei, Thelma Buabeng and many more. They all tell personal, touching and sometimes shocking stories about the reality of their lives in Germany, which demand one thing above all: It is not enough not to perceive oneself as racist. We all have to actively counter racism.
The book’s editors are creative manager Simon Usifo and the internationally known author Martina Rink, both of whom contributed their own stories. The individual reports were supplemented with expressive portraits by photographer Sammy Hart. Behind every face photographed there is a very personal story. “People of Germany” is a collection of stirring insights into 45 lives and 45 everyday racist events and at the same time a statement that there is hope for change. Because these people are “People of Germany”.
Simone de Beauvoir
I want everything from life, I want to be a woman but also a man, have lots of friends and be alone, work a lot and write good books, but also travel and have fun, be selfish and not selfish.”
Simone de Beauvoir
The young woman who wrote these words is now considered one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. With her works, her philosophy and her way of life, she challenged her contemporaries and changed our ideas about love, relationships and the relationship between the sexes. Anyone who opens the graphic novel by Julia Bernhard and Julia Korbik will discover a full life in it: rich in knowledge, in pain and joy, the life of a woman who was driven by curiosity about herself and people at all ages and who fought to be able to be and always become herself, regardless of class and gender, regardless of norms and rules, in all her facets.
The hardcover edition is available now.
Enlightenment book: What’s glittering there?
The enlightenment book What’s glittering there? was created as a joint project. The friends Patricia Strübin and Daria Locher thought back to their own sex education classes and realized: Numerous aspects and people are often overlooked when it comes to this important topic. With an extra dose of glitter, her book now provides a broad overview of the body, sexuality and puberty. There is finally room for self-care, body positivity, consent, dynamic gender identity and more. What’s glittering there? With its playful illustrations and glittering elements, it awakens the desire to discover, try out, grow and get to know yourself. Depending on the age and development of the children and young people, selected pages can provide information and stimulate initial discussions. Ideally, the book will accompany you for many years.
