Sign now: Petition for basic child security

Do you remember what it was like when Lisa Paus really wanted to push through effective basic child welfare and we thought: “Is this really happening now?” and then dared to be a little hopeful? The idea of this society without children in poverty was quite nice – until Christian Lindner claimed at the beginning of the year that the budget did not have the necessary 12 billion euros and that (contrary to all independent calculations and studies) there must be other ways to get children out of poverty; 2 billion should be enough.

But: There are currently no other options. And 2 billion will not be enough to combat child poverty in Germany. We have known this through research for decades. And then our Chancellor recently said in a summer interview that the economy was actually not doing that badly. In a country as rich as Germany, child poverty is a choice. That’s why we should be angry! But what to do with the feelings?

Let’s work together with the Petition in the Bundestag for effective basic child protection. We give ourselves hope again! The petition will be submitted on September 20th. at the demo @familie_sin_alle handed over to the Ministry of Family Affairs! By then we want to have at least 50,000 signatures in order to have the right to a hearing in the Bundestag! We would like to thank Anne Dittmann for this fantastic one initiative!

Documentary: William Fan “In Betrween”

William Fan is not only one of our favorite Berlin designers, but also certainly one of the most successful. For years he has enriched Berlin Fashion Week with his elegant designs, his inspiring overall concept, his own story, his past. He always focuses on his roots; invites us to get to know his growing up here in Germany in more detail and to understand the important references of China, his parents’ homeland. I am very grateful to have been able to accompany William’s journey from the beginning and can share the documentary with you “In Between” by Kim Hess in the ARD media library I highly recommend.

Between escapism and realism, his story reflects the social conflicts of our time and provides insights into the fashion world characterized by contrasts and change.

All eyes on Ganni
The new liaison with New Balance & the fall/winter collection

GANNI “will never be a gray turtleneck,” says creative director Ditte Reffstrup and yet: for autumn/winter 2023 she has drawn a slightly more grown-up GANNI Girl, still playful, but a little more elegant. The focus is on strong, feminine tailoring and styles that you can almost see as Wardrobe staples could describe – but not without the certain GANNI twist and the unusual details typical of the label. “The mood of the collection reflects where I am in my life right now: I am much more balanced and at peace with my style,” says Reffstrup.

The butterfly and its metamorphosis symbolize – and symbolically, as a new logo – the career of the label, which began with the support of a few GANNI Girls and now gathers an incredibly large, diverse, international community around itself, which makes GANNI probably still the most celebrated of all Scandi labels.

So it’s no wonder that other brands also want a piece of their success and that there are always new design collabs with Ganni. And after a successful first one, as is well known, you should continue: We’re talking about, of course New Balance x Ganni. GANNI presented its second, highly anticipated collaboration last week with the SS24 show at Copenhagen Fashion Week. And the result doesn’t disappoint: we were particularly impressed with the yellow model! From August 18th here available!

Book tip:

“Cancel white feminism. Why our feminism needs to become more feminist” by Sibel Schick

Feminism in Germany must change, demands the journalist and author Sibel Schick:

We need justice instead of exclusion! Calling yourself a feminist is popular, but that doesn’t mean that mainstream feminism deserves the name. Only a few people in Germany benefit from it: privileged, heterosexual and cisgender white middle class members. And the exploitation of everyone else is pushed into invisibility. If we want to live in a free society that demands real equality for all people, a lot has to change: in our coexistence, in politics, online, at work and in general in our understanding of democracy. Step by step, Sibel Schick analyzes the exclusion mechanisms of white feminism based on current social debates, breaking with traditions and expectations. A highly relevant plea for a fairer world.

Available from S. Fischer Verlag from September 27th.

Cookbook II: Splendido comes back!

With her cookbook published in 2021 »Splendid« Mercedes Lauenstein and Juri Gottschall thrilled everyone with their Italian recipes! Now it is high time for the successor. And it will be released on September 19th. »Splendido. Italian product knowledge and recipes« is the perfect cookbook for anyone who wants to truly immerse themselves in Italian cuisine and learn more about what makes really good ingredients. Be it olive oil, prosciutto, tomatoes, radicchio, parmigiano, peperoncino, nuts or pasta (to name just a few), Mercedes Lauenstein and Juri Gottschall take us by the hand and show us what to pay attention to when purchasing and processing. And there are new recipes too, of course!

In the many years that Mercedes Lauenstein and Juri Gottschall have been involved in shopping, cooking and enjoyment for their online magazine, they have learned one thing: the most important ingredient for a good meal is quality. The better the products used, the shorter the list of ingredients, because good food usually stands so impressively on its own that any additional accompaniment distracts more than complements it.

But what are good products anyway? Where do you find, recognize and process them? In their second book, the winners of the German Cookbook Prize 2022 focus on the aspect of product knowledge of Italian products. Whether vegetables, herbs, cheese or fats, Italian cuisine is and remains the champion of product quality, biodiversity and maximum simplicity with maximum creativity. It works best where the uncompromisingly high-quality basic product can be the real star. For each product group there are the best recipes in the tried and tested Splendido style, without dogmas or quantities for more fun, self-empowerment and success when cooking.

20 product groups, 70 new recipes
& many unique photographs from Italy
