We are looking for a skilled and experienced Robotics or Mechatronics Engineer to provide technical research, design assistance and guidance for a UK university final-year Mechanical Engineering research project.
The project focuses on the design and development of an Adaptive Robotic Gripper capable of handling objects of different shapes, sizes and weights using adjustable gripping force, force sensors and soft gripping materials.
The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge, practical engineering experience and the ability to explain complex engineering concepts clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with academic research, literature reviews and identifying relevant scientific papers.
- Provide technical guidance on robotic gripper mechanisms, particularly adaptive three-finger grippers.
- Support 3D CAD modelling and mechanical design using SolidWorks.
- Advise on force sensors, actuators, gripping mechanisms and suitable materials.
- Provide guidance on engineering calculations, simulations and design validation.
- Assist with understanding prototype development, sensor integration and basic control systems.
- Review technical work, identify potential design problems and suggest improvements.
- Provide regular online technical guidance and support throughout the project.
Working Arrangement
This is a remote, part-time opportunity with flexible working hours. The selected candidate will provide ongoing technical guidance, research support and design feedback. The student will remain responsible for completing and submitting their own academic work.
