Nepal demonstrated remarkable resilience at ITB Berlin 2026, maintaining a strong presence despite travel disruptions. Showcasing its shift towards sustainable, high-value tourism, the country highlighted its unique spiritual and cultural appeal. Through strategic partnerships and outreach, Nepal reaffirmed its position as a distinctive destination in a changing global travel landscape.
Nepal has consistently proven itself to be a nation of resilience—adapting to challenges while continuing to inspire travelers with its unique blend of spirituality, culture, and natural beauty. Today, as global tourism evolves, Nepal is not only recovering but redefining its role as a destination rooted in purpose, sustainability, and authenticity.
This resilience was once again evident during ITB Berlin 2026, but Nepal’s story extends far beyond a single trade event. It reflects a broader transformation of a country positioning itself for the future of travel.

Performance at the Nepal Evening on March 6 during ITB Berlin
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), together with 26 tourism stakeholders, participated in ITB Berlin 2026—the world’s leading travel trade show held from March 3 to 5. The event provided a crucial platform for Nepal to showcase its diverse tourism offerings, build new business relationships, and strengthen ties with global partners. Despite unexpected disruptions, including senior leadership being delayed due to the ongoing Middle East situation, Nepal maintained a strong and visible presence throughout the event.
The 60th edition of ITB Berlin, held under the motto “Discover the stories behind 60 years of legacy,” and guided by the topic “Leading Tourism into Balance,” brought together around 5,800 exhibitors from over 171 countries and more than 100,000 attendees. With thousands of media representatives and global industry leaders present, the event once again confirmed its position as the most influential platform shaping the future of travel.
Nepal’s delegation, led by senior NTB officers Ms. Srijana Nepali, Mr. Robin Regmi, and Mr. Shiv Raj Pandeya, represented a wide cross-section of the tourism sector, including airlines, hotels, and tour operators. The Nepal Pavilion stood out by effectively showcasing the country’s cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and deeply rooted spiritual experiences—attracting strong interest from international buyers and media alike.
Germany remains one of Nepal’s most important European markets. In 2025 alone, Nepal welcomed over 30,000 German visitors out of nearly 1.2 million international arrivals, ranking Germany among its top source markets. This underscores the strategic importance of continued engagement in Berlin and across Europe.
However, Nepal’s message at ITB went beyond promotion—it was about transformation.
During the official ITB program, Ms. Srijana Nepali presented Nepal’s vision under the theme “Paving Paths for Responsible Tourism and Product Diversification.” Central to this strategy is the country’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. A key initiative is the Trail-Based Tourism (TBT) program, which introduces new trekking routes across the mid-hill regions of Koshi Province. Covering nearly 400 kilometers, routes such as Mundum, Chiyabari (Tea Garden), Phalgunanda, and Laligurans (Rhododendron) offer immersive experiences while promoting environmental stewardship and supporting local communities.
Complementing this effort is the Sustainable Tourism Project (STP), a joint initiative between NTB and UNDP Nepal. Designed to support post-pandemic recovery, the project focuses on strengthening tourism infrastructure, promoting digital innovation, and fostering inclusive economic opportunities. By improving facilities along major trekking routes and encouraging community-based enterprise, the initiative aims to build a resilient and competitive tourism economy.
These efforts reflect a broader global shift. Today’s travelers are increasingly seeking meaningful, high-quality experiences over mass tourism. Nepal, with its identity as the birthplace of Buddha and home to the Himalayas, offers a rare sense of purpose—where journeys are as much about inner discovery as physical exploration.
A standout moment of Nepal’s engagement in Berlin was the “Nepal Night,” jointly organized by the Nepali Embassy, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the World Tourism Network. Bringing together around 200 distinguished guests from the German travel industry, diplomatic circles, and international organizations, the evening served as a vibrant platform for cultural diplomacy and networking.
Guests experienced Nepal’s rich heritage through traditional performances and authentic cuisine, while industry leaders exchanged insights on tourism development and future collaboration. Speakers highlighted Nepal’s tourism potential, investment opportunities, and the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between Nepal and Germany. The event not only celebrated Nepal’s culture but also reinforced its positioning as a destination of depth, authenticity, and global relevance.
At the same time, Nepal continues to navigate challenges such as air connectivity, particularly amid geopolitical tensions affecting key transit routes. Yet, as seen globally, the industry is adapting—exploring alternative routes, strengthening regional links, and diversifying access. Nepal is expected to follow a similar path, leveraging partnerships and innovation to remain accessible.
What distinguishes Nepal is its ability to turn challenges into momentum. Rather than focusing on volume, the country is embracing a tourism model centered on quality, sustainability, and meaningful engagement. This approach not only aligns with global trends but also protects the very essence that makes Nepal unique.
Trade events like ITB Berlin play an important role in amplifying this vision—setting trends, fostering collaboration, and shaping the direction of the industry for the year ahead. For Nepal, such platforms are not just about visibility, but about influence.
As the global tourism sector enters a new era, Nepal stands out as a destination of depth and distinction—spiritual yet adventurous, traditional yet forward-looking. Its resilience continues to define its journey, and its evolving vision may well help shape the future of travel itself.
