During the lockdown, many people became really creative thanks to the contact restrictions and a lot of time. I also had a lot of ideas in my head at this special time. It was important to me to upcycle a lot of things we already own. So I turned the shelter and the workshop on our country estate upside down like a vole and found quite what I was looking for. What do you do with all the finds like a pallet, two old wine crates and a few boards? Since our daughter bakes lots of sand cakes in the sandbox and enjoys creating small dishes out of water, grass and leaves, the answer was quickly found:
A mud kitchen was needed for the play paradise in the backyard. I admit that our daughter would never have chosen gray as her “kitchen color.” However, we still had a lot of paint left over from painting the arbor, which is ideal for the outdoor area. Unfortunately, small investments at the Swedish furniture store such as a kitchen rod with hooks and knobs at the hardware store for the oven still had to be made. If you also want to build a mud kitchen for your little chefs, remember to secure the pallet etc. well. Since the mud kitchen is freestanding in our backyard, we built a structure out of two heavy, long wooden boards. It doesn’t look particularly pretty, but safety comes first. This means that the mud kitchen cannot tip over and is stable and safe for the kids.
When I watch our daughter working on her mud kitchen from the kitchen window, I find cooking twice as much fun.
