After introducing the redesigned Seamaster Planet Ocean, OMEGA marked the collection’s London arrival with an evening at one of the city’s most architecturally compelling venues. The Tanks at Tate Modern, former oil storage chambers from the building’s power station past, were transformed into an immersive underwater world, with atmospheric lighting and deep-sea projections. This traced the Planet Ocean back to its origins as a serious dive collection.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, one of two global faces of the campaign, was the natural anchor of the evening. The British actor has built a close relationship with OMEGA over time, one grounded in a shared sensibility around craft and precision.
“I have built a very close partnership with OMEGA based on our shared love of detail and quality,” he said. “Representing the Planet Ocean collection feels like a real milestone. It is such a beautiful watch, and I genuinely feel it carries the Seamaster story forward in the best possible way. It is an honor to be here in London tonight, talking about it with so many people who feel the same.”
Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, set the tone for the evening: “The Planet Ocean began its life as an underwater watch, but it has evolved into one of our most appealing lifestyle models. It is very symbolic to celebrate this completely redesigned collection in London, a city that has always been a starting point for discovery, style, and innovation.”
The guest list reflected OMEGA’s broader cultural reach. Pierre Niney, who brought Yves Saint Laurent to life on screen, was there alongside Connor Swindells, known from Sex Education and Barbie, and Tom Blyth, who recently led The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The Tate Modern setting said something about how OMEGA is framing this relaunch. The Tanks, stripped back and massive in scale, gave the watch room without competing for attention. A venue with its industrial history hosting a collection that has always been about going deeper.
The New Planet Ocean
The fourth generation stays true to the line while refining it. The 42 mm case remains, but with a flutter sapphire crystal and a reworked structure that makes the watch noticeably slimmer. At 13.79 mm in height, it sits closer to the wrist and feels more contemporary.
The updated design language brings in echoes of Seamaster models from the 80s and 90s: sharper edges, clearer lines and less rounding overall. The matte black dial is still a signature element of the Planet Ocean, while the newly shaped Arabic numerals, drawn in an open, modern typography, introduce a calmer graphic rhythm.
Seven new Planet Ocean watches feature in the fourth-generation collection, spanning three color worlds: orange, blue, and black. Inside each is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8912, with 60 hours of power reserve and METAS-certified precision and magnetic resistance.
