More WWDC innovations: iCloud+, Siri queue, Xcode improvements | News

If you need more storage space than the free 5 GB, you have to resort to a storage upgrade, which Apple now calls iCloud+. The range of functions will increase with the upcoming system updates, because Apple Intelligence requires a subscription for some functions. From the wording “with most iCloud plans” higher usage limits are available, it can be concluded that the 99 cent tariff is not included. However, Apple still has to make it clear what the exact restrictions are if they don’t want to dig into their pockets for AI. By the way, this also applies to the Home app, which will also contain additional, not individually broken down functions for iCloud+.

Siri waitlist
The reports about Siri waiting lists are true – for developers. If you have installed the first developer version, Siri AI is not available directly; instead, you must register via “Join waiting list” in the Siri settings. It remains to be seen whether this will also be the case in the market-ready version for regular users. Bloomberg suggested as much in a recent article.

Xcode improvements
Apple announced a new “Core AI” framework. Concrete details will follow in the developer sessions and the State of the Union presentation. The idea is to integrate your own AI models into the app. Additionally, Apple is introducing custom skills and server-side model processing. Developers can use it to define their own capabilities and, depending on the task, decide whether a function is executed locally on the device or via more powerful server models.

Xcode also receives new AI functions. In the future, the “coding assistant” can help localize apps, interact with simulated devices and, if desired, use Gemini. The assistant can also be expanded using custom skills. Federighi described Xcode as the future best place to develop apps with agentic coding workflows. This refers to development processes in which AI not only suggests individual lines of code, but also takes on more complex tasks.
