Monthly Update #36: an intense January

I had to smile a bit when I read the title of last year’s February update: “January was a long year,” because that’s exactly the title I could give today’s too.

Because wow, how long has this first month of the year been? To be honest, our start to 2026 was quite modest, because a few days before New Year’s Eve I was so overwhelmed by the flu that I really couldn’t do anything anymore. Accordingly, I spent the New Year in bed with a fever. And after I infected Chris shortly afterwards, it took more or less until we left for Portugal in the middle of the month until we were fit again.

We spent a total of two weeks with Fiete in Portugal and even though we were extremely unlucky with the weather, we made the most of our workation. We used the rainy hours to work and headed to the beach for a walk with Fiete as soon as the rain took a break (sometimes it worked better and sometimes worse). Otherwise, we devoted a lot of time to good food, got to know completely new corners of the country and had a really nice time. And sometimes the real magic lies in when, after hours of rain, the sun suddenly comes out unexpectedly and life happens outdoors from one moment to the next…

We saw and experienced a lot in the two weeks and will report in detail here on the blog. We have already shared many impressions on Instagram.

PS: We are already looking forward to our next trip to Portugal (with an extra portion of sun as compensation).

Otherwise, as always, I’m currently trying to find the balance between “staying informed” and not getting too caught up in all the bad headlines in the world. An article that I wrote three years ago and which is currently more relevant than ever: About the start of the day and the stress of the world.

And what’s coming up for us in February? On the one hand, we will be traveling in England for a week starting tomorrow, and on the other hand, we have projects planned in Munich and in the mountains. As always, you can look forward to lots of new content here and on social media!

With this in mind: Have a nice start into the new month!
