Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo!
2020’s biggest blockbuster anime series took little to no time introducing its breakout star, with Jujutsu Kaisen’s Satoru Gojo quickly cementing a place among the greats. As is typical of Shonen Jump battle manga, the series heaped on genetic and supernatural advantages for the young teacher, from prodigious talent to being the only member of his clan born with the Six Eyes and Limitless technique in recent years. Gojo may not technically be the main character of the series, but for many, he’s the primary draw.
Yet, despite his many advantages, key events from later in Jujutsu Kaisen’s story indicated that his talent still needed proper honing to make him the powerhouse Special Grade sorcerer everybody knows and loves. It was more than the Limitless technique alone that granted him his godly mastery and confident aura. This is especially the case once Yuta Okkotsu famously took over Gojo’s body in the final chapters of the series, realizing just how unwieldy Gojo’s abilities truly were to those less experienced. It was a long road to the top for Gojo to be considered the greatest sorcerer of today, and it certainly didn’t happen by accident.
Gojo Spent Years Training To Become The Strongest
Yuta Reading His Memories Proves How Hard He Worked
In a last-ditch effort to beat Sukuna, Yuta Okotsu took control of Gojo’s body by copying Kenjaku’s ability to transfer the user’s mind into a corpse. During the battle against the King of Curses, Gojo’s pupil was visibly struggling to emulate his teacher’s techniques and fighting style. Yuta noticed that, despite inhabiting Gojo’s body, abilities like the Hollow Purple or his Domain Expansion were not as easy to conjure as Gojo made it seem. At one point in the battle, Okkotsu even ponders about how hard his teacher had to train to get to the level he was.
Throughout the series, many characters have voiced their belief that Gojo’s strength comes mainly from his family’s techniques. While Limitless and Six Eyes are undoubtedly outstandingly powerful abilities, they do not seem to be the source of Gojo’s strength. During the beloved Hidden Inventory arc of the series, Gojo stated that he had trained daily to be able to master his techniques. While many individuals may dismiss Gojo as a nonchalant person who is naturally gifted, chapter 262-2 proves them wrong.
Jujutsu Kaisen Is A Series Where Hard Work Is Rewarded
The Fight Against Sukuna Proves That Natural Talent Is Not Enough
Jujutsu Kaisen is a series that has often depicted hard work as more valuable than natural ability. Characters like Maki or Toji, despite not having access to Cursed Energy, were able to fight hand-to-hand against some of the most powerful beings in the universe. Although being naturally gifted has also aided certain individuals in their quest to become the strongest, training and perseverance are treated with higher regard. The battle against Sukuna is the perfect example of how dedication trumps talent. Regardless of Sukuna’s status as the strongest sorcerer of his time, he has struggled while fighting against youngsters who have trained tirelessly.
Thanks to his intense training shortly before the battle against Sukuna began, Yuji has proven himself as one of the most versatile and strong individuals in the series. He has severely damaged his opponent, despite being constantly mocked for his weakness in the past. Yuta, who has often been regarded as a genius, had to relive his teacher’s arduous training before effectively utilizing the Hollow Purple technique. While people born with talent have still been incredible allies during the fight, hard work is likely what will allow the heroes to defeat Sukuna once and for all.
Satoru Gojo is likely to remain one of the most powerful and beloved Jujutsu Kaisen characters. His awe-inspiring strength and impressive techniques make it hard for fans to forget how amazing a character he is. Nonetheless, the latest chapters ensure that followers of the series are aware of how important training was for Gojo to achieve the level he had before his death.
Gojo’s Successor Took Decades To Reach His Level
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo!
While it’s utterly unsurprising that the original protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, a battle shonen series, would eventually match or surpass the story’s breakout genius sorcerer, it still took until the recent sequel to happen. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo brought a functionally immortal Yuji Itadori to the forefront after plenty of teases across its limited run. Demonstrating an array of techniques like Reverse Cursed Technique, Shrine, and Blood Manipulation, alongside attacks like others like Black Flash and Piercing Blood, Yuji’s enormous proficiency and lack of worthy competitors put him essentially at the top of Jujutsu Kaisen’s food chain.
But with 68 years to hone these abilities, Yuji also vastly outlived Gojo in the process, while potentially surpassing the limits of even Sukuna by the series’ end. It leans into how Yuji progressively became more of a living cursed object by the end of Jujutsu Kaisen and going into its sequel. These qualities make the prospects of a Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo anime all the more enticing, especially with MAPPA’s recent tantalizing anime trailer promoting the manga’s final volume, as fans will have at least one more guaranteed chance to see Yuji animated following the big showdown with Sukuna in the main anime.
