Judes Family cloth diapers vs. Bambino Mio, Totsbots & Kit&Kin – heylilahey.

In my last blog post I reported generally on the topic of cloth diapers, shared the general advantages and disadvantages, as well as my own experience and recommendations. I’ve often mentioned Jude’s Family cloth diapers. We tested a total of four different brands of cloth diapers and I wanted to give you a little review because I am often asked which manufacturers I can recommend. (Advertising/Affiliate)

So overall I tested a few brands and Jude’s family is actually my favorite. I was not paid for this blog post and was under no obligation to write about Jude’s Family! I want to make this clear as my review of Judes Family will be quite positive. But as I said, I was NOT paid for it, there is no obligation and no other type of agreement. As I said, my absolute The Judes Family diapers are my favorite. You can find out why below.

My Second favorite are the all-in-one diapers from Totsbots: Easy to use, rarely leak and look cute 🙂 They Kit&Kin cloth diaper We’ve only had it for a short time, so I don’t have a long-term report yet. The Bambino Mio diapers We received them second hand and thought they were ok, but they leaked very often (even though the elastic around the trouser legs was actually ok…) and so we passed them on…we just couldn’t cope with the fit.

The Judes Family diapers work very simply:

Judes consists of overpants and an inner diaper.
Place the poo paper in the inner diaper. Then you put the diaper on the baby. First the inner diaper, then the overpants, and fasten it with Velcro.
When changing: If there is stool in the diaper: The poo paper is removed, it catches the stool and disposed of in the trash. The overpants and inner diapers are both placed in the diaper bag. If there is no stool in the diaper: Dispose of the poo paper, put the inner diaper in the diaper bag and the cover is aired out and reused at the next change. We change them after about 4 uses.
The dirty diapers can be stored in the diaper bag for 3-4 days until the next wash. There is also a diaper bag for on the go.
Then the diaper bag goes into the washing machine. You don’t have to touch the used diapers again. You open the zipper in the washing machine – so the diapers shake out directly from the diaper bag when washing.
Everything is simply washed at 60 degrees. We do not use a special rinse cycle or program. Just cotton at 60 degrees and normal detergent. However, we recommend a rinse cycle in advance and special Family Care detergent, as well as not spinning more than 1,000 revolutions.
Then air dry the diapers or tumble dry them. I have a tip for outdoors: install a drying rack that you can pull up to the ceiling. The air is always warmest at the top of the ceiling, so everything dries faster and the drying rack doesn’t get in the way! We installed ours in the hallway, super practical!

The list of advantages of Judes Family cloth diapers over other cloth diapers is simply quite long:

Cloth diapers sometimes require awkward folding or fiddling with snap fasteners – something I find too complicated. Thanks to the Velcro fastener, the Judes Family diapers are super easy to put on and take off (the same steps as disposable diapers). This becomes particularly practical as soon as the baby becomes more mobile! You have to get used to the two layers, but then it goes very quickly.
The Judes pads are firmly sewn in so that no additional folding is necessary and the absorbent pads cannot slip when put on (e.g. while standing). Because separate inserts are not used, fewer items need to be washed and dried, reducing time.
All components can be easily washed at 60°C and can also be tumble dried. With the diaper bag, the diapers can also be hygienically put in the washing machine without touching them again – simply open the zipper and the diapers come out automatically.
I LOVE the Judes Family Diaper Bags! I can recommend her so much. They make washing, but especially storing dirty cloth diapers, so pleasant and easy: There is a large diaper bag and a travel version for on the go. You can simply put both of them completely in the washing machine, then open the zipper, close the washing machine door and the diapers will fall out by themselves when washing.
I think the Judes stay pretty tight thanks to the extremely absorbent weave. But the cover also effectively prevents leaks, better than other cloth diapers we have tested.
Despite the absorbent layers, the Judes are relatively thin and slim cut for a tight fit. This means our little one always fits his normal clothing size – practical for the occasional change to disposable diapers without having to change clothes. Breastfeeding, sleeping, crawling and playing are also very easy for our little one and seem to be no different than with the narrower disposable diapers.
The cover can be used as a swim diaper in the swimming pool, on the beach or anywhere else!
Not to be underestimated: I find the simple, chic design with the great colors very aesthetically appealing 🙂 The look makes it much more pleasant to use, even if that is of course very subjective.

The disadvantages of changing diapers with Judes Family diapers:

Compared to disposable diapers, they don’t last as long for us, unfortunately. I’m unsure what exactly is causing this. Our little one just drinks a lot before his nap and then he’s usually wet after his nap. That’s why we have to change them relatively often and that’s tedious because our little one hates changing diapers SO MUCH…it’s a drama every time (no matter which manufacturer haha). But this happens to us with all cloth diapers, some more and some less. Least of all with Jude’s Family.
The two layers are actually an advantage because the overpants can be easily aired out and reused a few times, meaning you don’t have to have as many diapers at home. This saves space and makes washing easy. In addition, the inner diapers dry faster. The problem with us is that the daycare center does not accept airing out due to the daycare center’s hygiene regulations. The overpants can only be used once in the daycare center. So we currently don’t have enough diapers to cover full-time, even though we have the full-time package, because we don’t want to wash the covers every day. To get around the problem, we bought a few more overpants. But it’s too expensive for us to really increase it even more. This also means that we wash the overpants more often than intended, which is why we see a lot of pilling on them (but it doesn’t affect their function). Long-term experience in quality with Judes Family

I’ve been using Judes Family diapers for almost a year now and I can only say good things about the quality. Yes, the diapers now look used and no longer pure white, there is pilling on the overpants and they have also shrunk a bit. But the Velcro fastener and the elastic band are still GREAT and the fact that they shrunk isn’t a big deal as they still sit well due to the fit. Here is a comparison photo of a new pair of overpants on the left and one that we have been washing every three days for a year (as mentioned above, we have to wash the overpants more often than necessary), you can see the pilling:

The travel wetbag has lost its shape a bit. It still works great, but the zipper is a little more difficult to close.

Overall, no matter which brand you choose, I recommend buying a starter kit first. This way you can familiarize yourself with the respective system before the birth or before the change. Read reviews of the manufacturers, watch videos, talk to friends and then decide! It’s a big investment at the beginning and switching between brands is rare, expensive and inconvenient. Overall, you save a lot of costs, at least that’s the case for us.
