Siri – Generation 2 or even a reboot
In the past 15 years of Siri’s history, Apple has promised major innovations several times, but the version expected for iOS 27 is most likely the most massive change. Siri 2 is likely to be less of an update than a complete reboot, as both the base (Gemini-based) and the interface (chatbot style) will reportedly be completely replaced. Apple has to solve several problems at once: Siri should respond more naturally, act more reliably, understand more context and at the same time keep Apple’s data protection promise. ChatGPT and Co. have massively shifted the expectations of digital assistants and their language/comprehension abilities. A Siri that just looks prettier but still avoids everyday questions or refers to web searches would hardly be enough. For the first time there is also a standalone Siri app.

Camera: Highly customizable – Visual Intelligence
The camera app will be much more customizable in iOS 27. According to reports, Apple is planning a widget system for the camera interface to place controls such as flash, exposure, timer, depth of field, photo styles or resolution (almost) at will. In addition, the different shooting modes receive their own widget sets, so that photo, video and other sections of the camera app can come with their own interfaces.
There is also supposedly a new Siri mode within the camera app that directly integrates visual intelligence. So far, Visual Intelligence has primarily been accessible via camera control, the action button or system-wide detours. With iOS 27, the camera itself could become more of an AI input device by pointing it at an object, sign, document or packaging and asking questions about it.

Design: Liquid Glass is being revised
After the big design change with iOS 26, a completely new look is definitely not expected for iOS 27. However, Apple will probably make improvements in those areas where Liquid Glass causes problems in practice or is implemented inconsistently. There was a lot of criticism of readability and operating hierarchy, especially with transparencies, shadows, sidebars and text-heavy views. There is already talk of a slight redesign for macOS 27 that is intended to address exactly these points; similar adjustments are also plausible for iOS and iPadOS. Mark Gurman also states that the display of tab bars is about to be revised and will again include the search function directly in the future.

Some app updates
In addition to Siri and the camera, there are several Apple apps on the list. Safari is set to receive a revamped homepage with four tabs for favorites, bookmarks, reading list and history. This would allow Apple to make areas more visible that were previously more spread out or located deeper in menus. In addition, an AI-based function called “Organize Tabs” was discussed for Safari, which sorts and names intelligently.
With iOS 27, the wallet app should be able to digitize and store any tickets. They also say they want to take care of the weather app. A new “Conditions” section should allow users to switch between temperature, rain and wind as the main views. Apple’s other apps will receive the previously mentioned change in the tab bar and thus more uniform operation.

Lots of little AI features
In-camera visual intelligence, automatic Safari tab groups, wallet detection, and possible new photography tools all follow the same pattern. Apple is trying to integrate AI not as a separate main function, but in the form of many useful little helpers. The extent to which Apple relies on its own models or uses Gemini technologies remains to be seen.

Hopefully: stability and reliability
In addition to all the feature rumors, there is another often expressed wish about iOS 27, namely the focus on bug fixes and performance. There is reason to be hopeful, as multiple sources described iOS 27 as an update that will be more focused on bug fixes, optimizations, speed and battery life. The past system generations were dominated by big promises such as the new design, Apple Intelligence or Siri, but much of it seemed unfinished or had been postponed – whereas many users had the impression that there was no time left for other bug fixes.
