Apple did not present any new hardware between April and June, but the announcements from March (including the MacBook Neo) are likely to still have a noticeable impact. This is particularly true due to the fact that the devices were quickly sold out after they went on sale and the situation only stabilized again in May. According to Apple’s own forecast, significant sales growth can be expected for the last three-month period.
OpenAI announces its own hardware – but it does not come from OpenAI
What the ominous AI device is that Jony Ive and Sam Altman personally stand behind remains unclear. However, OpenAI has ventured forward elsewhere and announced its first hardware product. However, this classification must be viewed with some caution, because the input device called “Codex Micro” is neither a real OpenAI device nor an independent computer.
The product shown is apparently largely based on Work Louder’s “Creator Micro 2”, which has 13 mechanical buttons, a joystick or rotary controller and a touch-sensitive surface. It is not yet known which functions OpenAI specifically places on the controls. For example, starting new Codex tasks, confirming changes, switching between agents or using frequently used development commands would be conceivable. Further details will probably only follow on or shortly before July 15th, when “your favorite shortcuts in Codex will get an upgrade,” according to the previous teaser.
