There are cities that whisper their stories to you – and then there is Verona. This Italian beauty will sing you a whole love song. My stay in Verona was like a walk through a living fairy tale, where so many places seemed to tell of Romeo & Juliet. And yes, I didn’t just fall in love a little bit… with the city, the atmosphere, the art and of course the wonderful Italian food.

Of course, our trip started with a visit to the famous Casa Di Giulietta balcony! The wall full of love messages! Maybe touching the bronze statue of Juliet really brings luck in love? Tip: Go early in the morning when the city is still asleep. The balcony is (almost) yours alone.
Our hotel in Verona
If you really want to enjoy Verona, I recommend our Hotel Relais Colle San Pietro – a little gem right on the old Ponte San Pietro bridge, which leads to the old town. Antique interior, only 5 rooms in total with balconies and a wonderful view of Verona. If desired, breakfast can be served on the balcony. Our suite was decorated in green, large and very comfortable.
The hotel manager Sandro takes loving care of every guest and helps with everything you plan and need. The hotel is no longer an insider tip; it has 9.6 out of 10 points on Booking.com. Therefore book well in advance or book like we do in the early and late season and save.
My tips and highlights of the city
Verona Arena:
An open-air opera experience, but only in the summer months. Even if you’re not an opera fan, the arena is also open for tours during the day. Tickets are only available online, also for all other sights and museums in Verona: www.tiqets.com or verona.midaticket.it
Verona Arena
Piazza delle Erbe
The perfect place for an Aperol Spritz and a bit of dolce vita while watching the hustle and bustle around the market. The market is not of particularly high quality; a lot of the goods on offer look cheap and tacky.
The square is very touristy, but the food in the restaurants is still good. If you are looking for a special place to eat, you shouldn’t come here.
Piazza delle Erbe
Castel San Pietro
A short climb (or with the cable car) is rewarded with probably the most romantic panoramic view over Verona. Perfect for a kiss over the city rooftops. Unfortunately, the castle cannot be visited.

Hot Spot and Rooftop Location: The terrace of the Hotel Milano
Our favorite location in all of Verona! We liked it so much that we went there every day either for an aperitivo or for dinner. The sunset is particularly beautiful here, with a view of the Arena di Verona. The food, the cocktails, everything was wonderful and beautifully presented. www.hotelmilanoverona.com
Palazzo Maffei Museum
This beautiful art museum is located right on Piazza delle Erbe. A collection of ancient and contemporary art awaits you with the charm of a private house. Very worth seeing! The museum has a roof terrace with a 360 degree view of Verona! The tickets cost 10 euros, you can also buy the ticket online here.

Archaeological Museum in the Roman Theater of Verona
This open-air museum with many treasures from Roman times is located on the hills of Verona, just a stone’s throw from the famous Ponte San Pietro bridge. You can get through here in 10 minutes, it’s tiny, but still worth seeing.

Minuto Bauli Café
This café looks inconspicuous from the outside, but you can sit comfortably on the first floor and have a great view of the pedestrian zone. You definitely have to try these delicious stuffed Baulis. Very high in calories, but delicious to melt away. They are available with various fillings, I chose a pistachio cream filling and the matching Moccachino with pistachios and cream. www.minutobauli.it

Verona is also the perfect photo backdrop, which I used directly for beautiful fashion pictures. I would recommend 2-3 days in Verona if you are also interested in culture and art. Otherwise, if you’re all about dolce vita, 1-2 days are enough to immerse yourself in the city. We decided on a mix of shopping, feasting and culture/art. We would do it exactly the same way again.
In May we go to the Amalfi Coast. I’m celebrating my 50th birthday there. Look forward to a blog post with tips and experiences from Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Spring is finally here, finally sit outside again and enjoy nature!
See you soon, your Jeanny
