New leaked hands-on images of the Huawei Pura The live photos confirm a striking 16:10 format and a high-quality design with a textured surface, meaning Huawei is effectively preempting Samsung and Apple with this new form factor. The device has to do without Google Play Services and instead relies on HarmonyOS.

While official renders have already shown the design, these live photos look much more exciting because they show a working device that, thanks to the wider 16:10 format, closes the gap between a smartphone and a tablet even better.

In other words: The “wider foldable” looks more real than ever before, because it is now. By bringing this form factor to market, Huawei has officially overtaken Samsung and Apple in the race to define the “wide foldable” trend.

This move is intended to strengthen Huawei’s leading position in the foldable segment and builds on the foundation laid by the foldable Pura X. Despite the strong hardware, the US sanctions against Huawei remain a major obstacle.

The Huawei Pura X Max will run HarmonyOS without Google Play Services. A global launch is still not confirmed, the first market launch will initially take place exclusively in China. Interested parties outside of China will therefore have to wait for further details after the debut on April 20th.
