While developers can segment and control a database in a targeted manner, the knowledge in the model weights is firmly interwoven with the logic of the AI. In order to have real control, systems in the future would have to completely record the provenance of every memory – i.e. source, time stamp and context of creation.

Skepticism about providers’ promises is growing in view of internal instructions for new models. Such non-transparent requirements make it extremely difficult to check the actual control over your own data.

AI assistants need technical protective walls

In order for users to maintain control over their information, they must be able to see, edit and delete what the AI ​​is storing at any time. The first developers such as Anthropic or OpenAI are already reacting and creating separate storage areas for different projects or health topics.

However, in the future, operators will have to tailor their systems even more precisely to distinguish between general preferences and highly sensitive categories such as medical conditions.

The aim must be to integrate secure standard settings and technical protective walls such as earmarking. Only if the industry prioritizes transparency and technical separation will AI remain a useful helper that respects personal secrets.
