The last significant revision of the iPad mini was some time ago. The design has been unchanged since 2021, and there has only been a single chip upgrade in almost five years. According to several reports, the dry spell will end this fall. As Bloomberg now reports again, there are far-reaching improvements to be made. Internally, the next generation will have the identifier J510 – and will have an OLED display for the first time. This would therefore be a significant upgrade of the model series, although the price would probably also go up. OLED, but simple design
However, there will definitely be differences to the displays of an iPad Pro, which doesn’t just mean the dimensions. The panel is limited to 60 Hz and therefore does not support ProMotion with up to 120 Hz. The iPad mini 2026 benefits from better black levels and higher contrast, but not from the even smoother display found in more expensive Apple devices. There are no plans to change the design, although the display would allow for slightly lower heights.
Further price increase?
In this country, the current model now starts at 679 euros after Apple recently raised the prices of many products. Before June 25th, however, it was only 549 euros. Bloomberg assumes that OLED could drive up the entry price further, but does not provide any specific figures.
Round of updates for all iPads
According to Bloomberg, the iPad mini is the start of a longer round of updates, as the OLED conversion of the iPad Air is also scheduled to take place in the spring. During the same period, Apple also presented a new generation of the basic iPad (but without OLED) and the iPad Pro. However, no major changes are to be expected in the last two series. Apple has apparently put plans for a foldable iPad on the back burner – or has said goodbye to them completely for the time being.
